Mermaid Kisses, Starfish Wishes

Hi all!  I’m keeping up with The Daily Marker 30 Day challenge and this time, I am trying to actually make cards with my colored images.  I gave away a lot of my stash of cards, so now I’m hoping to get it built back up.

Today I have a shaker card with minimal bulk.

Mermaid Shaker

I love these little mermaids from Love, Cynthia.  Just Keep Swimming has three mermaids, some sweet sea life friends and sentiments.  This was actually two days worth of coloring for the coloring challenge.  First, I created my background.  I used the Dainty Scallop Cover Up from MFT (retired — a MASSIVE amount of my stash is now retired!) and created a stencil.  I watercolored the scallops with my lone two Distress Oxide Inks — Wilted Violet and Broken China.IMG_4158

The next day, I stamped a pair of mermaids and some sea friends in VersaFine Onyx and embossed them with clear embossing powder.  I used my Distress Oxide Inks to color the mermaids and some Zig Clean Color Markers to color the sea friends.  I fussy cut them out and started on a shaker card.  I knew I wanted to do this with minimal bulk.

I cut my window with the largest Stitched Rectangle Frame die {NOT retired!}.  I selected Stardream Metallic cardstock that I’ve had in my stash since we were planning our wedding in 2004! I believe the color is Kunzite, which is a really soft and pretty purple.  I added a piece of overhead transparency to the back of my frame die cut.  To make everything match up perfectly, I used the frame from Blueprints 13 to cut my watercolored scallop background.  I glued my background to a card base of the same color.

Ages ago, I won a jar of decorative confetti bits at a shoebox swap.  You know how you can get sprinkles for your ice cream in a divided jar?  Well, this is confetti bits — with loads of warnings that it is NOT food printed all over it.  It contains stars, hearts, stars & moons, and bitty flowers.  I’ve used it a few times, but there are enough sprinkles in there for a load of shaker cards!  I poured some of the hearts onto my background.  Then I added scor-tape on the inside of my frame.  Given that all of my shaker bits were in the center, I should have been able to just glue it down, no problem.  NOPE!  Somehow a bunch of those little buggers got onto the adhesive before it was completely flat.  So I just added more scor-tape to those areas and pressed down firmly.

I then added my mermaids and sea friends to the front of the card.  I wasn’t about to stamp on the transparency and didn’t want to add a sentiment strip.  So I stamped Mermaid Kisses and Starfish Wishes on a panel for the inside.  I can say that embossing on the Stardream Metallic is not 100% — things can get a bit dodgy there.

Mermaid Shaker Shaking

There you have it!  A sweet shaker card!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!

Wishing You a Magical Day

RBW_participant

Hi all!  Did you experience the Solar Eclipse yesterday?  My family and I went to Missouri to view it.  It was truly an awesome experience.

TGF YNS Magical Rainbow Dash Watercolor

I used my Zig Clear Color Brush Markers to create the background and I loved how that turned out.  Then I used an MFT stencil and some glittered embossing powder over the top and that is where the wheels kind of came off.  I wasn’t thrilled with how that turned out and I had a few gaps in the embossing powder.  However, after leaving it sit for a number of days, I finally came up with a plan.  I had colored up a bunch of The Greeting Farm unicorns a few months ago.  My Rainbow Dash inspired pony worked perfectly here. I cut her out with a Stitched Circle STAX die and cut my watercolored background panel with Blueprints 13.  I used a generous amount of dimensionals to pop up Rainbow Dash in the center of that stencil.  The sentiment is from Your Next Stamp’s Magical Ponies.  I embossed it on Black Licorice cardstock and hand cut it to fit under Rainbow Dash.  Since there is a load of sparkle in the stenciling, there wasn’t really a need to add additional embellishments.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!

FTHS #164 Wish Big!

Hi all!  Happy last Monday of February!  I have a really CAS card for the new From the Heart I {heart} Sketches with a tWist challenge.

fths164-wish-big

When I saw the tWist for this challenge, I knew I wanted to do a water color background and feature a sentiment as the focal point.  I used my Zig Clear Color markers to create the watercolor background.  I then picked the Wish Big! sentiment from the Birthday Burger Birdbrain stamp set.  This allowed for a very CAS and very quick card.  Of course, I switched the oval to a rectangle.  To embellish it, I added some Nuvo drops in Caribbean Ocean.  {I held off for a LONG time before buying any Nuvo drops.  This is the only color I have.  I held off because I knew I would want all the colors.  The bottles are so pretty, I’d just like to display them. }

Hope you’ll find the time to join us!  Make sure you check out what my design teammates have made over on the From the Heart Stamps blog.

Have a great day!

Sweet 16 of 2016

Hello!  Yes, it’s been a very long time!  I didn’t intend to take such a long absence, but it just kind of happened.  2016 was a big year for many reasons.  My family was finally able to put a plan to move into action and we moved back to my home state of Wisconsin.  It happened rather quick, even after trying to make it a reality for years.  No matter how you slice it, moving is always stressful, crazy and difficult!  We are renting an apartment so that we can take our time to find the right house in the right neighborhood.  I’ve lost my dedicated crafting space, which is a big reason you haven’t seen a lot from me.  {Four humans and a big dog in a 2 bedroom apartment can be interesting, to say the least!}  I can’t promise there will be an uptick in posts coming in 2017, but there just might be.  🙂

Before I get on to the Sweet 16, if you are looking for me and I’m not blogging, you are likely to find me more often on Instagram or my Facebook page for PRT.

Anyway, I wanted to end the year with my Sweet 16 for 2016.  Here we go, in chronological order:

JANUARY

fths-136-big-burger

I was thrilled with how this BIG burger turned out!  Coloring can be daunting sometimes!

FEBRUARY

This is counting as one of the sweet 16!  My kiddos have gerbils and these were little cards from the gerbils to their humans.  Unfortunately, we lost Sandy on Halloween.  Smokey is still with us and my daughter now has Dusty — a gerbil who looks almost the same as Sandy.

FTHS139 Hoppy Birthday take 3

My husband’s birthday card and again, I was thrilled with the coloring.

Sophisticated Script Hello

I absolutely adore the Concord & 9th Sophisticated Script alphabet set.  It is a brilliant concept and I used it a lot — I made over 100 name tags for students in the PTA Art Show with this alpha and they turned out really well.  This was such a super CAS & quick card in some of my favorite colors.

MARCH

FTHS Knit Happens

Again, coloring and a Birdbrain.  Love the rich & warm colors.

FTHS142 Keep Calm

This was super fun as well!  Homemade enamel dots!

APRIL

KG April Color Prayers

KG Hello Paris

A pair of watercolor cards for Kennedy Grace Creations.  Love the clean lines of the thoughts and prayers card and love the watercolor background for the Eiffel Tower.

MAY

MFTCC44 Ainsley Hello

This is a card of my daughter’s — she pulled it all together on her own and it’s a great card!

KGC Hydrangea Birthday

Purples are not my favorite, but this came out really spot on!

JUNE

FTHS154 Hot Chick

Flossie the Flamingo {I felt the need to name her!}

FTHS158 Cold One

Love the monochromatic grays!  I finally gave my husband this card in November!

JULY

KGC Coral Rose Love tray up top

This was part of the staging of our house to sell it.  I put this little tray in our bedroom, pulling in the colors of the room.  It was quite love-ly.

SEPTEMBER

These were tags for teacher thank you gifts and I love how they turned out.  They popped a punch and were quick & simple!

am-wedding-side-flat

My niece was married in September and this was my card for the newlyweds.  It was also my entry to the MFT Card Design Superstar contest.

orange-gold-roses

Orange is definitely not a favorite color of mine, but this turned out quite well.  Love the addition of the gold.

So there you have it!  My Sweet 16 of 2016!  I hope 2017 brings you prosperity, health, happiness and lots of crafty time!

KGC – Framed Florals #3

Hi there!  I’m here with the third of my Framed Florals.  I needed some new artwork for my bathroom wall and the beautiful floral images from Kennedy Grace Creations worked perfectly!

KGC - Framed Floral 3

Just as I did with my other two florals, which you can find HERE and HERE, I stamped my flower from Loving Mom in VersaMark and embossed with black.  I used Gelatos to once again watercolor my flowers.  It was really a quick & simple project.  Since they were in frames, there are no embellishments or additional layers.

And, here they are, hanging in my bathroom:

KGC Framed Floral Trio

Please excuse the light glare on the left!  I love how they turned out and this was a great way to give the bathroom a tiny makeover!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!

KGC – Framed Florals #2

Hi all!  I’m here with my second Framed Floral piece featuring Kennedy Grace Creations Beautiful Bloom – Sweet Rose.

KGC Framed Sweet Rose

Like my hydrangea, I stamped the Sweet Rose in VersaMark and embossed it with black.  I used SAI Watercolor Markers to color it in.  It was rather quick and simple, which is exactly what I need right now!  One more to go and I’ll have my trio of artwork!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!

Crafting With Friends – Anything Goes

KGC -Framed Florals #1

Hi all!  Happy Friday!  This was a really full week in our house and I typed this up on Sunday.  Hopefully, I have made it to Friday!

Today I have the first of three florals I’ve made for my bathroom.  The bathroom is painted a beautiful rich blue, named Ole Blue Eyes (as in Frank Sinatra).  I’ve had three empty hooks, waiting for some new artwork.  First up will be the Beautiful Bloom – Hydrangea.

KGC Bath Hydrangea

I love this big, beautiful hydrangea.  I stamped it with VersaMark on watercolor paper using my MISTI.  I find for large images, I really need my MISTI.  I apply almost CPR-like pressure to the image to get firm and even stamping.  Then, I embossed it with black embossing powder.  To color my image, I used Gelatos again.  I smudged a few blues on my craft mat and mixed them together to get the blue hue I wanted.  Next, I used a few greens to color my leaves.  {As you can see a few bits crossed over outside the lines, but I was leaving it.}  I then used a peachy color to age the background a bit.  Since this will ultimately be behind glass, I kept this quite simple and added no embellishments.   Can’t wait to have all three up in my bathroom!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!
