2013 Year in Review — October through December

Happy New Year’s Eve!  It’s hard to believe 2013 is coming to a close already!  We will be ringing out the old with the 3rd annual Wall Family Dance Party.  With any hope, I will be participating and not sick on the couch as I was the past two years.  (I’m auto posting, so this remains to be seen.)  I have my finally three months of my favorites/year in review.

October
Pretty and Frilly Bra

October kicked off the Hope You Can Cling To (HYCCT) challenges at SCS.  I had participated in a handful in 2012 and being a breast cancer survivor, I wanted to participate in the entire month’s worth of challenges.  Be forewarned — there will be lots of PINK in October & November!
This was one of my favorites from the entire month long challenge.  I know how much I enjoyed shopping for pretty new bras after completely reconstructive surgery earlier this year.  Of course, I went with pinks and black, some pearls, some lace and some really pretty papers.  LOVE it!

This was an inspiration challenge and I was very happy with my result.  Lots of die-cutting for the ruffles in gradient pinks.  LOVE it!

Doing 30+ challenges over the course of a month makes you step out of your comfort zone.  I stepped into a lot of CAS designs over the month and this was one of my absolute FAVES!  This challenge was to combine pink and camouflage, not exactly easy for me.  I sponged the tee with 3 shades of pink to create my own camo.  Love how it turned out and the CAS style!

November

OMG! Did you hear?

I had this Victoria Case for SCACD image all colored and finally put it on a card for the HYCCT challenges.  I love how it matched up with fun conversational cloud paper and the sentiment was created using stamps from a Paper Pretties set.

I’m not sure if I’m a closeted Oakland Raider fan or what, but I LOVE silver and black together.  Nothing says elegance like they do!  Love this a*muse studio chandelier image — it’s loaded up with rhinestones and some pretty double sided ribbon.

This was such a fun card to create — I used my Martha Stewart branch punch and punched out a bunch of sparkle lime green paper.  Very fun!

Sometimes a card just comes together perfectly with minimal ingredients.  This was one of them — a fantastic piece of designer paper, a fab pair of heels and just the perfect touches.

My last HYCCT card and I LOVE the simplicity of it.  I love damask patterns and although yellow definitely isn’t one of my favorite colors, I love the pop of it!  Simple elegance!
December

The simplicity of this card just makes me happy!  I had to make 30 of them so simplicity was a must. Love kraft, white and red together.

PWC138 — A Fairy Nice Day

Good Morning!  I’m here with the last Paper Pretties challenge for January!  Can you believe January is almost over?  Anyway, this week’s challenge was definitely a challenge for me.  The challenge is to incorporate sewing/stitching on your card — either real or faux.  Real sewing is definitely out — I can’t sew a straight line and when I attempted it on a card, my machine threw a fit.  So, I attempted faux stitching.

See that little dot dash pattern around the edge?  That is my attempt at stitching LOL!  At least I used top-stitched ribbon! Anyway, I picked the adorable Garden Fairy Katie  and the equally adorable Cosmo Cricket Pixie-licious papers.  I really love how the colors came together on this.  The colors in the Pixie-licious worked perfectly with Plum Pudding and Ocean Tides from PaperTrey Ink. Before removing the Nestie, I added in my “stitching”.

Here is a close up of the image — I added in a lot of sparkle with Stickles and a Viva Decor Glitter Pen.

Now for the inside, I attempted to add in some more “stitching.”   I have the In Stitch’z set of flourishes templates from Bazzill, which allows you to make some fun swirls and patterns. It had sat unused for about 6 months.  I intended to stitch it with embroidery floss, but decided to wimp out and just “stitch” it with a pen.

I thought the swirl went well with the design on Katie’s wings.    My main issue with actually stitching was the fact I had to tape down each loop on the backside.  Floss definitely would look better than pen. LOL!  At least I gave it a shot!

PWC127 Holiday Fairy Meg

Good Morning!  How was your Monday?  My husband and I had a great day together.  We had breakfast, did a bit of window shopping and watched some TV without interruption.  I wish we could have more days like that together, but I’ll take them when I can get them.

Today I have my usual Tuesday (or so it seems) Paper Pretties challenge card.  This week’s challenge is to have embossing on  your card.  Easy peasy, right?  Oh, did I struggle!

Now, I love the way Meg turned out.  She’s so sweet on her candy cane.  I struggled with the layout big time.  Finally, I decided on the Friday Sketchers sketch for this week.  It took me awhile to get everything in place the way I liked it, but persistence pays off!  This is a big card — 5.5″ square.  To emboss my Pure Poppy, I cut it in two pieces strategically — doing so where the ribbon would go to cover up the cut.  It is embossed with the Cuttlebug Polka Dots folder.    The designer paper is from K& Co Secret Santa.  I added in lots of sparkle with Stickles and glitter.  Some yummy ribbon and a sentiment tag from the set finished it off.

A Puppy is Love

Happy Monday!  A real quick (late) post.  I wanted to get on earlier today, but my son was home from school with a fever, so my production was slowed down.  LOL!  He’s better and I’m pooped!  Anyway, there are just under two hours left to donate to Blog Candy for a Cause.  I will be drawing winners tomorrow night.

Tonight I have a card featuring A Puppy is Love from the Victoria Case Hearts & Hugs Summer Collection available exclusively at Susana’s Custom Art and Card Design.  Susana has donated a set of Elisabeth Bell Animapeeps to the blog candy.  These are fantastic, deeply etched red rubber stamps. You wouldn’t believe the amount of detail in each stamp.  I have to tell you, I would love to have this sweetheart’s hair — it is such a great style and cut! The color came out better than I expected.  Anywho…I took a great color combo of Hawaiian Shores, Lovely Lavender (Gina K) and Cosmo Cricket DeLovely paper.  Oh, this makes me smile.  And a box of puppies would make my kids & husband happy!  The layout is this week’s The Sweet Stop sketch.

Enjoy the Moment

I just hosted a swap on SCS called “Let’s Swap Our Kids” — figuratively, speaking. The adorable Autumn from Victoria Case’s Hearts & Hugs Collection (Series 2), available at Susana’s Custom Art & Card Design was perfect for the swap. Autumn is colored in some lovely purple shades using Copics. Purples are not my usual choice of color, but it really worked here. The paper is PTI Plum Pudding and Lavender Moon, as well as patterned paper from DCWV’s Fall Matstack. I added some Martha Stewart glitter to her scarf fringe and the leaves.

Speaking of these adorable Victoria Case images, there is a Series 3 being released this Friday at SCACD. Victoria has blog candy for a set of the sure-to-be-adorable images on her blog this week. Go check it out!

For a Rainy Day

We have had so much rain this summer and some really wild thunderstorms lately. Yesterday was one of those rain-soaked summer days. What better way to spend part of the day then coloring an adorable image?

For my birthday in June, my husband gave me 5 of my favorite stamps from the Victoria Case for SCACD Hearts & Hugs Collection. These images are really just so gorgeous with tons of detail. I have to say they are a challenge to color for me. Of the 5 I received, Singing in the Rain is one of the easier ones to color. She is just so fun with her cute polka dot raincoat.

Normally, I color my images and then scramble to find papers that match. This time I picked my paper first — from DCWV Nana’s Kids — and went from there. I have to say it made things so much easier. The papers from Nana’s Kids are so much fun — many of them are embossed, as is this one. Because I wanted to focus on the image and the dp, I kept the layout really simple. I added some Crystal Effects to the umbrella and puddles.
