LOVEFEST2013F MOJO281 Fun is Good!

Happy Friday!  I’m back with another Love Fest challenge card.  This one was sponsored by The Cat’s Pajamas and was an inspiration challenge featuring some awesome patterns in yellow, black and white.  When I saw it, I immediately thought of the Teresa Collins Carolina Breeze paper pad.

Yellow isn’t one of my go to colors, but I love yellow, black and white together.  I went with the MOJO Monday sketch and added a simple sentiment from Verve — the set seems to be retired and I don’t recall the name.  A very quick and simple card!

Just Because – Winnie the Pooh Style

Good morning! We are enjoying such a beautiful weekend here. As my husband said yesterday, I think spring is finally here.

Today I have the second Just Because card I made for the Man’s Survival Card Kit. This is the more serious card. It is also very clean & simple.

I love the Winnie the Pooh quote from the Verve Beautiful You set. Although thoughts of Winnie the Pooh are likely childlike and whimsical, I decided to go the elegant route with this card. Very Vanilla is always elegant in my book, so I used that for the base. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and cut out with a Labels 3 Nestie. I painted the embossed edge with Gold Lame Smooch. The Very Vanilla base is matched up with a piece of very elegant, striped & glittery paper from the DCWV At Home paper pack. The patterns in this pack remind me of wallpaper, which is funny since I don’t like wallpaper, but these patterns are quite nice. I added in a bow of gold satin May Arts ribbon and a tiny pearl on the flower of the sentiment and I was done. Very quick, very clean, very simple and very elegant!

Petals & Stems Buttoned Up

I doubled up on two challenges with this card. This covered a Verve sketch and a challenge to use at least 3 buttons on a card (for the yummy prize of PTI buttons) from SOA. Regal Rose and Chocolate Chip are two of my favorite colors, so I paired them up with a bit of Rebecca dp. I stamped the smaller flowers from Petals & Stems in Regal Rose and Cameo Coral. I cut out another flower for each, added a butterfly as the center and popped them up with dimensionals. The background panel is Cuttlebugg’d with the Blooms & Dots embossing folder.

Verve Release Challenges

I’m not sure how they do it, but the girls at Verve come up with some fantastic sketches. A slow mojo can definitely be kicked into gear.

This yummy paper is from K&Company’s Sparkly Sweet pack. The colors are exactly that — sweet. I still have some Cool Caribbean paper and am trying to hoard. However, it worked far too well with this DP to not use it. The butterfly is stamped on PTI white and then on vellum. I cut out the vellum, scored the body and applied Dazzling Diamonds. This butterfly seems to beg for glitter and sparkle. The sentiment is one of my favorites from Beautiful You. Those adorable little buttons are from Gina K and are brads.

More yummy paper, but this time from Basic Grey Two Scoops. The Beautiful You set has so many wonderful sentiments to choose from. I chose the Dance…Sing…Live quote to be the focal point of the card. Dew Drops in Peony were perfect and there were two sizes, which I think is a great addition.

I chose to keep this card a 4.25 square card. Some of my favorite colors are Sweet Blush and Aqua Mist from PaperTrey Ink. They are so soft and subtle. More Two Scoops accents those colors nicely. Yet again, I went with a sentiment from Beautiful You. PaperTrey just released the yummy buttons in Sweet Blush this month — I haven’t ordered them (yet!), but I had this one in my stash.

For the last release challenge, I chose to combine it with the first Viva la Verve sketch for April. The twist on that sketch was to use a sentiment only. The Dr. Seuss quote from Beautiful You is a fun one, so I wanted to make the paper fun. The yellow & blue polka dots are from DCWV Nana’s Kids. This is such a fun pack of paper — many of the designs are embossed.

Lots of Dots in Black & White

I have to say, I am getting a bit addicted to the challenges. The sketch challenges are so great since they get you thinking right away. When I saw Taylor’s sketch on Friday, I new I wanted to try it. Then, I found out the limited supply challenge on SCS was for black & white only. I decided to combine them and this is what I came up with.

There are lots of polka dots — the background is embossed with the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder and the DP is from Papertrey Ink’s Black & White Basics. The flower and sentiment are both from Verve. I used Dazzling Diamonds on the flower center and painted the petals with Coal Shimmerz.

Viva la Verve — COMPLETE!

I’m so excited to have completed all four of the Viva la Verve challenges for March. The second challenge, which had the twist of using red, pink & green, threw me for a bit of a loop. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get those 3 colors in there, in a manner that I liked. I am so pleased with how this card came out.

Today when I started looking for a patterned paper to work off of, I came across my unopened package of Basic Grey Sultry 12×12 paper. When I spotted this paper, I knew I wanted to use it — even though the red might be stretched a bit toward the hot pink spectrum.

I was lucky enough to win the Miracles Blossom set from Verve at their release party earlier this month. I thought the flowers matched up nicely with this patterned paper. I stamped the flowers in Pretty in Pink and again in Memento Tuxedo. The black flowers were colored with a combination of Copics and Prisma pencils. I popped up the cut-out flowers over the pink flowers. The Dew Drops — Island Blossom — add an additional bit of red.

Viva La Verve – Almost There

I’m one card away from being done with the March Viva La Verve Challenges. This is my card for week one. The twist for week one was to use buttons. The flower is stamped twice, cut out and popped up with a dimensionals. This was a great sketch and Verve has so many great stamps that work with this layout.

Stamps: Verve Petals & Stems
Paper: Papertrey Ink Sweet Blush, Aqua Mist and white; Basic Grey Two Scoops
Ink: Certainly Celery, Pretty in Pink, Memento Tuxedo Black
Other Stuff: dimensionals, button

I have skipped week 2 — since it is a color twist, I need to think about it a bit more. The week 4 sketch was another great sketch and the twist was to use only one embellishment. I loved the color combination of Sweet Blush & Aqua Mist, so I used it again. What is even better is that I was able to get all of the DP out of one sheet of 6×6 paper. I’m rarely so good with my cuts. Again, the tulips are stamped twice, cut out and popped up with dimensionals.

Stamps: Verve Miracles Blossom, Petals & Stems

Ink: Mellow Moss, Pretty in Pink, Memento Tuxedo Black
