A Mixed Bouquet Hello

Hi all!  Happy Wednesday!  First, thank you to all of the past and present veterans who have served and continue to serve our country, as well as the veterans of other countries.

Next, on to my card today for our midweek inspirational post at From the Heart Stamps.

Another neighborhood mom is going through treatment for cancer and I wanted to touch base with her.  It seemed I would think of making her a card and then forget.  I finally remembered to do so.  She has always been a big supporter of my card making and work, so I’ll be sticking this in the mail pronto!  The Mixed Bouquet image from FTHS is so pretty.  I colored the flowers in a somewhat autumnal color scheme.  The little berries remind me of the bittersweet we had in our wedding centerpieces.  I pulled out some pretty Echo Park papers {Happy Days} and used the current Sweet Sunday Sketch for my layout.  The sentiment is from Darling Diamonds from Lil’ Inker Stamps.  It’s heat embossed with white embossing powder.
Make sure you pop by the From the Heart Stamps blog to see the other fantastic design team projects.

HYCCT1418 Sent with Love

Hi all! If New Jersey is missing from the continental US, it’s because we have floated out to sea with all of this rain.  BLECH!  It’s supposed to be sunny for the next five days, which will be wonderful!

I have another HYCCT card. The challenge for HYCCT1418 is Keep Connected, either connect elements on your card or feature means of communication.

I pulled out an old There She Goes set, which I knew would be perfect with the mailbox.  For colors, I went with Sno Cone and Banana Split from MFT, along with some cheery papers from My Mind’s Eye Sunny.  Bright & cheery!

PTI SAF 2014 — Challenge #6 Needlepoint Elegance

Although I cross stitch and my daughter just learned how to embroider/cross stitch from my Grandma, I wasn’t sure I was up for this challenge.  It was labor intensive to say the least!  In order to complete this one, I ran a piece of Rustic Cream through the Big Shot with the flower die included in the SAF kit.  I purposely did a full panel, figuring I would just put it on a card base.  Today I sat and stitched it with embroidery floss.  I added in a nice sentiment from Think Big Favorites #7, which I was lucky enough to pick up from Merry yesterday and some twine.  Very simple, although completely not simple!  LOL!

MFTWSC190 Wishing You Everything Happy

Happy Saturday all!  I’m getting ready to head off for a day of stamping with friends for PTI’s Stamp-a-Faire event.  My friend Michele and I got together for it last year and had a great time.   This year we have another friend joining us, so it should be a great time.  Hopefully, my mojo will flow freely! It’s been a little stagnate lately.  I think it’s that return from vacation/getting back to reality/waiting for school to start limbo!

Anyway, before I head out, I wanted to share my MFTWSC sketch card for this week.  I’m actually quite happy with how this turned out.

When I saw this week’s sketch, I immediately thought of Blueprints 16.  I cut a piece of Cryogen card stock with the rounded edge and then pulled out my Gingham background stamp again, inked it up with Razzle Berry dye ink and got a really nice background.  A piece of Razzle Berry card stock was then cut with the half circle.  For my main sentiment panel, I cut out six happy words – two each in Cryogen, Black Licorice and Razzle Berry.  I love the effect of stacking them up!  Where the star is on the sketch, I substituted in a nice bow of black satin.

MFT Color Palette Challenge #6 — Thinking of You

Hi all!  Happy Friday!  Try not to fall over that I have two posts in a row! 🙂  Unfortunately, I was in need of a sympathy card.  A very sweet friend tragically lost her brother last weekend in an auto accident.   She is such a wonderful person and it is clear from the outpouring of love for her brother and his family that he was the same.  It is just a very heartbreaking situation.

Anyway, I chose to make a card with the color palette challenge colors.  I thought there was enough light & dark colors to create a lovely sympathy card.

When I was trying to decide on a layout, I found this gorgeous card of Mona Pendelton’s and decided to CASE it.  I cut my Spearmint card stock with the Floral Fusion Cover-Up plate.  I love this plate!  I layered that with white and Nightshift Blue.  The card base is Kraft and I have it opening to the side.  When I looked for a sentiment, I discovered I do not have any sympathy stamps from MFT. I used a Thinking of You stamp from WTG Choose Hope. (and then went to add a sympathy set to my wish list!)  The sentiment is on a pierced fishtail flags STAX and paired up with the same size flag from the regular STAX in Nightshift Blue.

PTI 7th Anniversary – Thinking of You

Happy yet-another-snow-day day!  My kids are home again today on a snow day.  Unlike Monday where they were out making a snowman, today they are in because we have freezing rain and slop.  I know I’m not alone when I say “They need to go to school!”  This winter has been brutal in so many places in the US.

PaperTrey Ink is celebrating their 7th anniversary and it looks like the February release is going to be an awesome one.  They have some color & sketch challenges.  Now, I must admit, color challenges are not my favorite.  I often stumble on them when there are more than 4 colors involved.  However, I’m proud to say I managed to make one work!

When I looked over the color combos, I knew I could do the first one.   I pulled out my Guide Lines set, which is perfect for using lots of colors on a card.  I do not have PTI inks, so I selected colors that worked the best.  I stamped 4 lines of grid and then my image in a gradient-like fashion.  My base is Hawaiian Shores and the Summer Sunrise is embossed with the Cuttlebug Tartan folder.  I added in a bow of satin Hawaiian Shores and a sentiment from Simple Little Things.

The color combo and sketch I chose are pictured below.

HYCCT1327 Thinking of You

Happy Monday all!  I’m back to auto-posting again.  Today I have my card for the Honor Your Elders challenge from HYCCT.  There was a bonus of using gold or vintage.  I made this with my Grandma in mind.  She raised 8 kids and assisted with many of us grandkids and great-grandkids.  She is quite amazing — quite funny and spunky, very stubborn,  and loved by many.

I pulled out this treasure chest image from The Paper Shelter.  After coloring the image, I cut it out with Labels 18 and sponged lightly with Distress Ink Antique Linen to keep the white card stock from clashing with the more vintage-y colors.  On the sides of the trunk, I added Liquid Pearls in Bisque to the knobs.   The hats have glittery bows.  The papers are from Bo Bunny Ambrosia, which were perfect for the vintage feel.  They are matched up with Soft Suede from SU — it’s a color I’ve had for years and never used.  A simple sentiment from PTI Everyday Classics finished it off.
