KGC – Dueling DT – Hello

Hi all!  I’m here today with a special challenge for Kennedy Grace Creations.  Sheena Joy and I are “dueling designers” today.  We have both used Grace’s Little Note to create a project for today.

Here’s my card for today:

KG Patriotic Duel May

Given that today is Memorial Day in the US, I wanted to use red, white & blue as my color combo.  I stamped one of the floral images from Grace’s Little Note in Versamark on watercolor paper and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  I then used Gelatos to watercolor the image.  My favorite technique is to scribble a bit on my craft mat, wet it and pick up the color with my waterbrush.  I then cut the image out with a Stitched Circle STAX die from MFT.  My layout is a great sketch from Sassy Sketcharinos and I pulled out three ribbons to create the stripes on the sketch.  My sentiment is stamped with VersaFine Onyx ink and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I then added in sequins from Dress Blues and Blackbird.

Hope you’ll stop by Sheena’s blog and the Kennedy Grace Creations blog for more details!  Thanks so much for stopping by today!  Hope to see you again soon!

MFTWSC234 Enjoy the Celebration of YOU!

Hi all!  I’m back with the first card I made for the MFTWSC challenge.  I preempted it yesterday with my rainbow Love Wins card.

I really like this sketch and it works so well with the Horizontal Stitched Strips.  Clearly, I had July 4th in mind when I made this card.  I used the Lucky Stars dies to cut some pretty silver striped metallic leftover Christmas paper!  The sentiment is from an Ala Modes set — Big Birthday Wishes.

Happy Friday all!  Sorry for the long absence.  We were on vacation last week and went home to Wisconsin.  I’m trying to get back to some sort of routine now, while preparing for the upcoming school year.

How many of you have been wrapped up in the Olympics?  I have to say the majority of events that I enjoy are the first week.  I missed the opening ceremony as we were on the way to Wisconsin, so I’m looking forward to watching the closing ceremony.

Anyway, Jodie has a really sweet patriotic A Kid’s View image today.

Isn’t he a cutie?  I went with very traditional red, white and blue — and then realized the paper I wanted to use was more vintage & cream.  So after coloring my image and doing the cutting/embossing, I sponged some distress ink over the top before removing my Nestie.  The papers are from Authentique Glory.  I added very little embellies — just a small white star to the flag, as well as some Glitter Liner, a patriotic ribbon knot and finally, USA cut out with MFT dies.

It’s the Simple Things

Good Morning!  Happy Saturday!  Well, we are officially into summer vacation at our house.  My daughter’s last day of school was Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday were crummy weather wise and I was surprised we all survived.  Lots of paper, paint, crayons, markers and glue came in handy.  Fortunately, my kids like that kind of thing.  The dog is even off her schedule! LOL!

Anyway, today marks the start of a new Catch the Bug challenge for Bugaboo Stamps.  Today we are challenging you to get out your red, white and blue (especially appropriate for our stateside friends with the July 4th holiday fast approaching) and ribbon

I love the Summertime Peekers and love it even more when I have one colored in my stash.  Even more when it fits with a challenge theme!  I used the sketch from Sweet Sketch Wednesday, which worked perfectly.  The starred designer paper is from the absolutely fabulous Jillibean Soup Watermelon Gazpacho paper pad.  Some buttons, ribbon, Stickles and rhinestone stars finished it off with an appropriate level of cute.

We’d love to have you play along with us this week.  Break out your red, white & blue, along with your ribbon and link up your NEW project with a DIRECT LINK to your blog post on the Catch the Bug blog.

Bugaboo’s Patriotic Ladies

Good Morning!  Happy Memorial Day!  Thank you to all of the servicemen & women out there and their families for their service!  My Dad was in the Army, served in Vietnam and was fiercely patriotic.  So, having the ABaC post for today over on Catch the Bug, I knew I had to do something patriotic.

I had an idea floating around in my head and this translated so well!  From the dollar store, I bought a flower pot, florist styrofoam blocks, shred and reusable plastic straws.  To the flower pot, I added some Rose Red striped paper from the Stampin Up Print Packs from years ago.  The pot tapers down, which made adding the paper a bit difficult, so I added in white grosgrain to cover the seams.  On each side, I added one of the patriotic ladies from Bugaboo Stamps — from the calendar months JJ, Stella and Ruby (all July USA) and Dottie Cinderella.  How is Dottie Cinderella patriotic you may ask?  Well, she reminded me of Betsy Ross, so I colored her up in red, white and blue too.  I cut out stars using my Nesties and printed off God Bless the USA on the computer.  I attached each star to a straw — these are awesome reusable straws.  Each straw is secured in the florist styrofoam blocks.  To cover the blocks, I added some red & white paper shred.  This just made me so happy with the outcome!  Here are close-ups of each lady.

How fun are they?!  Love Cinderella/Betsy Ross Dottie!

A Patriotic Thank You

Good Morning! Happy Memorial Day! Just a real quick post today as we are getting ready for a parade.

An equally quick card this morning. I pulled out my Cuttlebug folders — there are two of the newly released folders here — the polka dots (on the red) and Seeing Spots (on the white). I added a bit of Martha Stewart Crystal Fine glitter to the stars and a sentiment from PaperTrey Ink’s Mega Mixed Messages. Very quick and very effective!
