HYCCT1404 No Snowflake….

TGIF!  I’m going to make this a quick post as I’ve had quite a bit of running around this week and need to get back to work on craft fair stuff.

Today’s card from HYCCT1404 was a fun one to put together.  The challenge was “holding it together” — you could use brads, eyelets, stitching, etc to hold your card together, but no regular adhesive.  You could create a card front and use regular adhesive to bind that to your card base.

This came together far simpler than I expected it to.  I opted to create the card front and put together Vintage Cream (PTI) with some gold snowflake vellum.  Each corner is put together with a sparkly brad.  I then stamped a sentiment from Paper Pretties Snowflakes on a Pierced Fishtail Flag and attached that with a gold snowflake brad.  Quick & simple!

HYCCT1430 Need a Lift?

Happy Thursday all!  I’m plugging away at all of these HYCCT posts.  I think I’m down to 8 left.  This year, I kept myself very organized by using a little notebook and each day I wrote down the challenge info.  I could then fill in the info about my card when I made it.  During back to school sales, I picked up a set of post-it type flags from the dollar store in all sorts of colors.  I then coded my pages to know which ones still needed to be done, which needed to be photographed and uploaded and finally blogged.  It really helped.  A little OCD can be good sometimes!

Today’s card is from HYCCT1430.  The challenge was to be inspired by things that take off.

I’ve seen many cards similar to this with a “flutter” or “kaleidoscope” of butterflies.  {A group can also be called a swarm or a rabble, but I think flutter or kaleidoscope are prettier.}  I used my MFT Butterfly dies to cut out a bunch of rainbow colored butterflies.  I brought their wings up slightly to add dimension and added in some pearls.  The sentiment is from Paper Pretties.

Happy Wednesday all!  The enrichment class I’m teaching at my kids’ school starts today, which will be fun.  My one issue — why aren’t crafting supplies more portable and willing to be packed up?  Yes, there are the easier things like paper, scissors and glue, but some are just plain annoying!

I managed to get another HYCCT challenge card done yesterday.  I had colored a trio of images based on the challenges the other day and all I needed to do was make the card.  Since I set the goal of completing all of the challenges again this year, I try to keep the cards as “simple” as I can manage.  Nice, big focal images help!

Today’s card is for the Two by Two, Side By Side challenge from Diane (fionna51).  Her challenge was to use both pink and purple in your card, along with some element of 2.

I knew the perfect image for this challenge!  I love this sweet image from Paper Pretties (Victoria Case line) called Best Friends.  I colored them with Copics and cut it out with a Stitched Circle STAX die.  Since the image is so large, I wanted to keep things rather simple.  I found the perfect paper to compliment the colors from Echo Park Springtime.  I paired it up with Sweet Blush and Plum Pudding.  A nice big bow of pale pink satin ribbon was the perfect embellishment.  Finally, I stamped the OMG! sentiment twice on a Sentiment Strip from MFT and on the inside, stamped “Did you hear…” — the perfect card for sharing some happy news with a loved one!

2013 Year in Review – January through March

Hi all!  I’m sharing my favorites of 2013 with you!  Today I’m starting with January, February and March.  Apparently, I had a whole lot of MOJO in the beginning of 2013.  I had a hard time narrowing my picks down.  Here goes!

This was actually my first post of 2013.  I had challenged myself to complete all of the MFT Wednesday Sketch Club challenges for this year.  {I started off on a good note, completing this one on time, but ultimately fell behind in April.  I am slowly improving though — better in 2012 over 2011, better in 2013 over 2012!} If you know me or know my blog, you know I love pink and black together.  This was such a fun card == a very ME card! Well to the color extent, not so much the in a martini glass LOL!

Be My Mac Daddy?

My hubby surprised me with a new computer last Christmas and the Smarty Pants set from There She Goes was the perfect set to use for a thank you card.  I just love that sentiment and the bright yellow.

Sending You Love

Oh, goodness, this was such a fun card!  I was so happy with this sweet Paper Pretties fairy Valentine card!  Absolutely love the papers and traditional Valentine colors.

Another Valentine’s card and how sweet is this?  This is a Paper Makeup Stamps image and it paired really nicely with some heart shaped brads.  Brads are my least favorite embellishments, namely because I tend to forget to use them prior to putting the entire front down, but I really like them on this card.

February brought participation in Love Fest over on SCS.  I made up these cute Dream Crews for my kiddos using MFT Hooga Booga.  Click on Dream Crews above to go to the original post for individual pictures.
Again, another Love Fest challenge card.  This has always been a favorite Paper Pretties Sophia image for me and really love the richness of these colors.  Such sophistication for the sweet geisha.
This was another Love Fest challenge card and it was a color challenge — something that is definitely a challenge for me.  I was able to make it work with some super fun designer paper, using my MFT hexagon dies and a super fun sentiment from There She Goes.
Another MFTWSC sketch card — I love to paper piece and this was a lot of fun with the balloons and big 8.  If I have an image where I’m not confident of my coloring due to size, I’ll paper piece. This was sweet and cheerful, perfect for an 8th birthday of one of my daughter’s friends.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!  I’ll be back tomorrow with April, May & June!

Season’s Greetings!

Hi all!  Zipping through with a quick post!  I’m sure all of you are inundated with holiday preparations as well!  A friend asked me to design his holiday cards recently.  He sends out two different cards — one that is religious, Christmas based and another that is more general holiday.

I made two different general holiday cards and this was the one he didn’t chose.  When I think of holidays, I always think of snowflakes.  I opted for a navy card base and then embossed white with my large Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder.  The middle panel is silver heat embossed snowflakes on navy.  The snowflakes are from Paper Pretties Snowflakes set.  It’s finished off with a tag of Season’s Greetings (MFT sentiment).

Another HYCCT Project Trio!

Hi all!  WOW!  Yesterday was a blur for me!  I had to make a trip to Costco, which was a zoo, as you can imagine.  I did manage to get a few Christmas presents from there.  A few phone calls, putting things away finding hiding spots, swim lessons for the kids and it was a whirlwind.  Tis the season!

Today I have another 3 of my final HYCCT projects for you.  First up is an altered composition notebook.  The challenge was to alter a note pad/book.  I know how much info is thrown at you during treatment, so having a place to jot things down is definitely useful.

My kids use a ton of composition notebooks for school, so we always have extra around the house.  I used a pretty heart paper from the MAMBI Breast Cancer pad and kept it fairly simple.  To add a bit more, I put a pretty white bow with a trio of roses and a sentiment on a Fishtail Flag.

Next up is my first attempt at mixed media.  This was kind of a train wreck for  me! LOL!

Here was my thought process — First I crumpled up a piece of white tissue paper and glued it to white card stock.  I used a LOT of glue and was impatient in waiting for it to dry.  LOL!  I went over the tissue paper with watercolor pencils, thinking this would show a night sky.  Then I added red sticky tape stars with glitter — of course, since I failed to wait long enough for my tissue paper/glue to dry, the glitter kind of blobbed together.  {Insert foot tapping, rolling eyes smiley!}  I still went with it and stamped a sentiment from the Irish Blessings set from Paper Pretties.  Unfortunately, due to my overuse of glue, once it dried, it curled up far too much and the card didn’t make the trip to UT MD Anderson.

Finally, my card for the subway art challenge.

For my card, I decided to create  my own subway graffiti wall.  I sponged my brick wall using the MFT Brick Wall stencil with Toile Pink Palette ink.  Then I stamped sentiments from the MFT Clearly Sentimental about Audrey set in varying shades of pink.  Finally, I added in a few splotches of paint from the Abstract Art set.

LOVEFEST2013B For Someone Special

Happy Saturday!  We have an absolutely miserable day here for weather — rainy and wet.  Not pleasant at all.  However, we did get our new car, which we are all very excited about.  I know I’m ready for some Fahrvergnügen!  (Yup, we got a VW!)  We now get to enjoy Parents Night Out at the gym.  The kids have been talking about it all week.

I have another card for the Love Fest challenges.  This is for the Sweet ‘n Sassy sketch challenge.

I used the Fan-tastic Sophia digi from Paper Pretties for my card.  This is one of my favorite Sophia images and I think it’s because my mom had a thing for Oriental/Asian things when I was growing up.  I love customizing that beautiful kimono.  My papers are from Basic Grey Indian Summer and paired with Basic Grey and Scarlet Jewel.  I used a sentiment from the Garden Fairy Katie set from Paper Pretties and cut two of the smallest Fishtail Flags from MFT.  A line of pearls on each side finished it off.
