HYCCT1401A Big Birthday Wishes

Happy Wednesday all!  Are you ready for Halloween?  I have some work to do between now and Friday on costumes.  I’m looking forward to Saturday, where there isn’t anything on the calendar!!

Today I have my HYCCT card for the FIRST challenge.  I will admit that I almost gave up before even getting going on this one!  The challenge was to use the Paper Tole technique and create a truly 3D image with paper piecing.  You can watch the video or read through the tutorial, but basically you use multiple layers of the image or area of an image to create a 3D effect.

When I sat down and watched the video, I didn’t think I’d get through it.  I read through the tutorial and watched the video again.  Then I stamped my image 5 times, colored what I wanted and pushed them aside. LOL!  Finally, I tackled it this past weekend.  My main ala mode image was cut out with an Oval STAX die.  Then I cut out the balloons from the 4 additional stamped & colored (only the balloons) images.  I colored the edge with a PaperMate Flair marker.  Then each balloon was rolled over with an embossing tool.  Since I don’t have an embossing mat, I used my mouse pad, which worked great.  I then glued 4 additional balloons onto each balloon.

You can kind of see the 3D effect in this side view.  I kept the layout very simple since the image panel was large and I didn’t want to take away from the Paper Tole.  But, I had to add in that gorgeous striped ribbon, which compliments the striped designer paper so well!

Including today, I’m only 5 behind on the challenges for HYCCT!  I will have a very busy blog for the next few weeks, keeping up with posting all of the projects!  Actually, I think I have enough projects featuring snowflakes to do a full week of snow! LOL!

Scootin’ By…

Happy Labor Day!  Hope you are enjoying a day off!  We had a wonderful time yesterday at a BBQ.  Today we are off to Goodwill in the hopes of finding some party supplies for my daughter’s party later this month.

I have a fun card to share with you today — my mojo has been a bit sluggish lately and I’m really hoping it comes out in full force with the kids being back in school next week.   I’m trying to be better about my *ahem* stamp collecting — collect less, use more!   The Sweet Stamp Shop weekly challenge is a perfect way to use more, collect less!

For my card, I pulled out Scootin’ By — a super cute set, if you ask me.  Now, I forgot that Nicole had posted some inspiration for this challenge.  But, I did pull some colors from that gorgeous photo.
My stash, which came to mind almost instantly, is a newly acquired stash of vellum and transparent papers. My mom’s friend had attended an estate sale and purchased a huge box of crafting supplies.  When we were in WI, my mom presented me with my take from the box.  The original owner apparently had a thing for vellum.  My mom had this fabulous wine box, which is probably 3 inches deep and about 14×14, and it was filled with vellum.
I paper pieced the scooter, which some really cute gingham pink and plain pink vellum.  I stamped the clouds from the set on Post Its and cut them out.  Then I sponged a*muse studio Sky ink around them to create the backdrop.  The road was sponged with London Fog from Memento and has Berry lines instead of yellow.  The balloon trio is also paper pieced with vellum.  Inside I stamped Happy Birthday and some additional balloons.  I think it turned out really cute!

MFTWSC107 Word!

Happy Sunday!  I’m back again — yes, I know, it’s shocking I’ve been here with so many cards lately!  LOL!  I’m taking baby steps in getting things organized for real — like making lists of my stamps so I don’t buy multiples (yup, that’s happened).  Eventually, I’d like to make a  stamped image inventory so I know what I have — like the other day I wanted a sentiment of Warm Winter Wishes on my card, but apparently I only have it in digital format and I didn’t want to print (plus, my printer isn’t hooked up yet — slight problem).  So I spent far too long looking for a stamp that I don’t have and I think an inventory would be very helpful with that!
Anyway, onto my card.  I am 3 for 3 now on MFT sketches this year!  I’m so very excited about this!  I’m also very excited about how this card turned out — extremely fun!

It isn’t a secret that I love the a la modes from MFT.  The 80’s Girl is so fun — I remember having my fair share of ridiculously bright clothing in the ’80s.  In fact, I remember having a hot pink fluorescent sweatshirt with 1984 or 85 on it, which I wore with turquoise suspenders on pants that had a fine line plaid, I believe.  It was quite the outfit!  So my a la mode got her own wild outfit.  I chose papers from My Mind’s Eye Fine & Dandy Tickled Pink.  I purposely went with colors you wouldn’t typically pick together — an orange & hot pink patterned sweater, turquoise leggings and pink leg warmers. Her sweater and leg warmers are paper pieced.   The MME is matched up with some MFT papers — Razzle Berry and Blu Raspberry  I believe.

Behind the image panel, I used my Wonky Scallop dienamic to cut to strips and I added some glittered white ribbon to each.  Love how this card turned out — like, totally!

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful first week of 2013.  As I’m sure has been the case in many households, we’ve been sick, so it hasn’t been the best start.  Today was the best that I’ve felt and since I had my son home from school, happily watching SpongeBob, I escaped to my craft room.  It had been a LONG time since I had stamped or colored anything, much less put together a card.  So, my pace was a bit slow, but I am so thrilled with the outcome.  I’m also thrilled to have completed the first MFTWSC sketch of the new year on time!

This came together so well!  I used the Martinis on Me a la mode.  I’m not much of a martini drinker, but I do like a rare Cosmo, so I went with a pink theme.  Echo Park’s Be Mine is some of my favorite pink papers and it worked perfectly here — I matched it up with Black Licorice and Razzle Berry from MFT.   I wanted to create a fun rim effect on the glasses, so I used tiny pink rhinestones on both glasses.  Of course, Stickles worked perfectly for creating that Cosmo.

Inside, I finished off the card with an additional pair of sentiments stamped on Framed Greetings diecut.
I hope I can keep up the sketches this month and year!  I improved in 2012 over 2011, so I think it is possible!

Celebrate Birthday Wishes

Good Morning! It’s time for another challenge at Catch the Bug. This week we are challenging you to make a card with 4+ layers. So grab your favorite papers and get to it!  You have a chance to win up to 7 digis from the Bugaboo Stamps store. Just upload your NEW project with a direct link to your blog post on the Catch the Bug blog.  You don’t need to use a Bugaboo image to enter, but we’d love to see them if you have them.

I absolutely adore the Bugaboo Brats and the most recent additions to the collection are fabulous.  Here I used the cupcake sitter and the presents from the Furniture &Accessories collection.  I paper pieced her top and two of the presents.  My paper choices may look familiar, as they are New Leaf, Raspberry Fizz and Kaisercraft Candy Lane designer papers.  I really love this color combo. The sketch is this week’s Sweet Sketch Wednesday sketch — perfect for a multi-layer card.

TD08 – Balloon Bouquet

Good Morning!  Happy Friday!  Did you survive your first week of 2011 okay?  Getting back into the swing of things?  I rang in the New Year with a dandy cold and hope to kick it soon — it is amazing how off your creative juices are when you are coughing and blowing your nose constantly.

We have the first Tiffany Doodles challenge of the new year for you today and we are kicking off with a great sketch challenge.  Have you visited the new Tiffany Doodles store?  It’s awesome – – no more blog shopping!  Tiffany is working out a few kinks yet, but definitely a great way to get your TD image fix!

First up, here is the awesome sketch you have to work with this month:

Next, here is my card:

I love this image!  Tiffany released a bunch of Valentine images last weekend and I just love the Be Mine set.  I was going to use a non-Valentine image, but these were just calling to me. To me they look like a balloon bouquet.  I paper pieced them with K&Company Lovely paper, making a really fun & easy card.  A big pink bow and a tiny bow of maraschino twine were final touches.   The sentiments are from Gina K’s Tag Lines.

We’d love to have you play along.  Just link up your new creation to the Tiffany Doodles blog anytime this month and you have the chance to win up to 7 free digis!

Caroling Sophia

Hi all!  We have such a yucky, rainy day here today.  Why is it that when the kids are off of school (teacher convention), the weather is inevitably yucky?  I told the kids we are having a lazy day — we are staying in pajamas and not going anywhere.  Tomorrow we can run.

Today I have the card I made for a Paper Pretties swap on SCS.  I LOVE how this turned out.  First, Caroling Sophia is just adorable and second, one of my favorite color combos is Berry Sorbet and Sweet Blush.

Isn’t she just the sweetest?  I decided to paper piece her coat and love to use the DCWV adhesive stack for this — it just makes it so much easier.  When I found this piece of paper, it worked perfectly with Berry Sorbet and Sweet Blush.  The rest is colored with Copics and I added in a bit of Diamond Stickles on her boot cuffs and hat. There are lots of my favorite extras on here — one of my favorite Nesties (Labels 10), Houndstooth embossing, my favorite Martha Stewart punch, snowflakes, pearls and my favorite sentiment format — Modern Tag punch and Word Window punch.
