Sweet 16 of 2016

Hello!  Yes, it’s been a very long time!  I didn’t intend to take such a long absence, but it just kind of happened.  2016 was a big year for many reasons.  My family was finally able to put a plan to move into action and we moved back to my home state of Wisconsin.  It happened rather quick, even after trying to make it a reality for years.  No matter how you slice it, moving is always stressful, crazy and difficult!  We are renting an apartment so that we can take our time to find the right house in the right neighborhood.  I’ve lost my dedicated crafting space, which is a big reason you haven’t seen a lot from me.  {Four humans and a big dog in a 2 bedroom apartment can be interesting, to say the least!}  I can’t promise there will be an uptick in posts coming in 2017, but there just might be.  🙂

Before I get on to the Sweet 16, if you are looking for me and I’m not blogging, you are likely to find me more often on Instagram or my Facebook page for PRT.

Anyway, I wanted to end the year with my Sweet 16 for 2016.  Here we go, in chronological order:

JANUARY

fths-136-big-burger

I was thrilled with how this BIG burger turned out!  Coloring can be daunting sometimes!

FEBRUARY

This is counting as one of the sweet 16!  My kiddos have gerbils and these were little cards from the gerbils to their humans.  Unfortunately, we lost Sandy on Halloween.  Smokey is still with us and my daughter now has Dusty — a gerbil who looks almost the same as Sandy.

FTHS139 Hoppy Birthday take 3

My husband’s birthday card and again, I was thrilled with the coloring.

Sophisticated Script Hello

I absolutely adore the Concord & 9th Sophisticated Script alphabet set.  It is a brilliant concept and I used it a lot — I made over 100 name tags for students in the PTA Art Show with this alpha and they turned out really well.  This was such a super CAS & quick card in some of my favorite colors.

MARCH

FTHS Knit Happens

Again, coloring and a Birdbrain.  Love the rich & warm colors.

FTHS142 Keep Calm

This was super fun as well!  Homemade enamel dots!

APRIL

KG April Color Prayers

KG Hello Paris

A pair of watercolor cards for Kennedy Grace Creations.  Love the clean lines of the thoughts and prayers card and love the watercolor background for the Eiffel Tower.

MAY

MFTCC44 Ainsley Hello

This is a card of my daughter’s — she pulled it all together on her own and it’s a great card!

KGC Hydrangea Birthday

Purples are not my favorite, but this came out really spot on!

JUNE

FTHS154 Hot Chick

Flossie the Flamingo {I felt the need to name her!}

FTHS158 Cold One

Love the monochromatic grays!  I finally gave my husband this card in November!

JULY

KGC Coral Rose Love tray up top

This was part of the staging of our house to sell it.  I put this little tray in our bedroom, pulling in the colors of the room.  It was quite love-ly.

SEPTEMBER

These were tags for teacher thank you gifts and I love how they turned out.  They popped a punch and were quick & simple!

am-wedding-side-flat

My niece was married in September and this was my card for the newlyweds.  It was also my entry to the MFT Card Design Superstar contest.

orange-gold-roses

Orange is definitely not a favorite color of mine, but this turned out quite well.  Love the addition of the gold.

So there you have it!  My Sweet 16 of 2016!  I hope 2017 brings you prosperity, health, happiness and lots of crafty time!

MFTWSC184 & MFTCPC #7 Happy Everything

Hi all!  Happy Sunday!  Who is getting ready for World Cup Final action?  I think it will be on in our household.  I’ll be rooting for Germany.  We had a crazy Friday & Saturday with 3 birthday parties.  Today was clear and I had new MFT goodies to play with!

For this week’s MFTWSC sketch, I paired it up with the MFT Color Palette Challenge #7.   I additionally pulled out lots of new MFT goodies and put them to work immediately!

When I saw the new Balloon STAX with the most recent release, they went to the top of my wish list.    I was so excited that they arrived yesterday!  First up, I created my background with the Confetti Background stamp.  I inked it up first with Blu Raspberry ink and stamped.  Then came Mama Elephant Sunshine and SU Only Orange.  I LOVE how you can create such a fun & awesome background with this — perfect for color challenges!  I then cut four balloons and four happy words, each in the colors for this month’s color challenge — Sno Cone, Blu Raspberry, Banana Split and Tangy Orange.

You can kind of see that from the side view.  I popped up the Blu Raspberry panel so there is lot of dimension on this card.

The dimension is a bit easier to see with happy.  These dies make me happy!!

MFT Color Palette Challenge #6 — Thinking of You

Hi all!  Happy Friday!  Try not to fall over that I have two posts in a row! 🙂  Unfortunately, I was in need of a sympathy card.  A very sweet friend tragically lost her brother last weekend in an auto accident.   She is such a wonderful person and it is clear from the outpouring of love for her brother and his family that he was the same.  It is just a very heartbreaking situation.

Anyway, I chose to make a card with the color palette challenge colors.  I thought there was enough light & dark colors to create a lovely sympathy card.

When I was trying to decide on a layout, I found this gorgeous card of Mona Pendelton’s and decided to CASE it.  I cut my Spearmint card stock with the Floral Fusion Cover-Up plate.  I love this plate!  I layered that with white and Nightshift Blue.  The card base is Kraft and I have it opening to the side.  When I looked for a sentiment, I discovered I do not have any sympathy stamps from MFT. I used a Thinking of You stamp from WTG Choose Hope. (and then went to add a sympathy set to my wish list!)  The sentiment is on a pierced fishtail flags STAX and paired up with the same size flag from the regular STAX in Nightshift Blue.

THANKU

Hi all!  Have you caught World Cup fever?  We have in our house — well, at least my husband has!  It’s fun to watch and we definitely enjoy rooting on the USA.

Today I have a thank you card featuring the Joy Ride die-namics from MFT.

These dies are so much fun and are basically a card in itself!  This is almost a card for the MFT color palette challenge this month, but I thought there might be a few too many additional colors in there.  The car is Nightshift Blue and Spearmint with the cursory red taillights and break lights.  I added in a window with some acetate.  Since we are in summer, I thought it would be cute to look like it is at the beach.

MFTWSC168 & MFTCPC3 Happy Anniversary

Hi all!  Happy Monday!  It’s a big day in our household!  We are getting a new dishwasher!!! LOL! Our dishwasher broke last February and we’ve been doing dishes for a year.  My mom and grandma have never had a dishwasher, so I’m sure they would say “big deal.” Except we have the world’s stupidest sink in our kitchen.  It’s set at an angle and you can’t use it well.  We had hoped to be doing our entire kitchen, but that isn’t in the plans or budget this year.  So a new dishwasher it is!!

Today I have my MFTWSC card.  I am making a bunch of cards this week for consignment in a gift shop.  The blog will be a bit busier than it has been in a while!  WOOHOO!

I really like how this turned out!  I combined this week’s sketch with this month’s Color Palette Challenge.  It’s such a springy color combo!  The Double Dot Border die-namic was my inspiration for the embossed polka dots and spots.  I cut out a ring of Grapesicle with my Circle STAX and some pretty butterflies using die-namics.

MFTWSC164 Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Monday!  A very quick post as I have lots to do today!  I squeaked in a little bit of crafting yesterday to make my weekly MFTWSC card and I combined it with this month’s MFT Color Palette Challenge.

When I pulled out my pack of neutrals from MFT, I only had a remainder strip of Kraft, so I went with it and made a smaller 3.5x5x5 card.  The patterned papers are from My Mind’s Eye Sunny, which worked nicely with Blu Raspberry & Lemon Drop.

Je t’adore

Happy Tuesday!  I’ve been working on an index/inventory of my stamps.  Last week when I went to make this card, I couldn’t find the set.  I knew it was somewhere, but had to search.  Ultimately, I found it, but I decided it was time to do some REAL organizing and cleaning in my room.  So, since Friday, I’ve been working on my index.  Can I give you a tip?  If you are new to stamping, start your index NOW!  Don’t wait until you’ve amassed an impressive collection of stamps, making this a lengthy process!  I’ve even had some young assistants working with me on the process and we are making progress, but wow, I really shouldn’t need any additional sets.  {Yeah, right, I’m sure there will be at least a dozen that I will need this month alone, along with gorgeous new paper pads, inks and sequins.}

MFT now has a color challenge and they started with one of my favorite combos — pink, black and white.  For me, this is a combo that screams Paris!

I’m positively giddy with how this turned out!  After finding my WTG Parisian Girl set, I pulled out Echo Park Be Mine to go with the Pink Lemonade and Black Licorice.  I paper pieced her skirt with a  bright pink non-patterned paper from Be Mine.  Then I used the same bright pink and created a background with the sentiments and small damask image from the Parisian Girl set.    The layout is from Little Miss Muffet  — I added in some black lace with a rose & bow, along with an Eiffel Tower cut with the die-namic and a sentiment.
