FTHS #158 – Cold One

Hi all!  Happy Monday!  My kiddos are officially on their first full week of summer vacation.  We had company last week and are now looking to find our summer rhythm.

There’s a new sketch at From the Heart Stamps today.  This sketch challenge will be open until July 17, as the design team goes on summer break from July 1-17.

FTHS158 Cold One

For my card, I used Hamlet PigWit Cold Suds.  I chose the beer & ice bucket image and added one of the many sentiments from the set underneath.  The card came together really easily and turned out to be a fantastic masculine & monotone card.  I happened to find a really great piece of 6×6 paper that worked well with grays and added Grout Gray for a background panel and gray Perler bead enamel dots.

FTHS147 Hello, Monday

Hi all!  Happy Monday!  My kiddos are on spring break this week and we are hoping for some SPRING weather to do some stay-cation fun things.  I know it isn’t just the East Coast having the whacky weather and I really wish Mother Nature would figure it out!

Today is the new sketch over at From the Heart Stamps.  Our tWist is to use lots of patterned paper and I was able to do both the sketch & the tWist.

FTHS147 Monday Coffee

I absolutely love the Birdbrain Chick!  There are so many fun images in the store.  I colored Birdbrain Needs Coffee up and fussy cut him.  {A great tip for fussy cut images: I trace around the edges with a black Flair marker to cover up any white of the card stock.}  The patterned papers are from PaperTrey Ink {from a million moons ago, it seems!}.  I’ve decided I need to use up at least some of my ribbon. I pulled out this wide suede-like chocolate ribbon and tied a big bow.  I added in a sentiment from the set and popped it up on fun foam.  Then I finished it off with some sequins and gave Birdbrain some glazed over eyes with Glossy Accents.

FTHS#145 Birdday

Hi all! Happy Monday!  Hope you had a lovely Easter holiday and weekend! I’m back today with the newest sketch for I {heart} Sketches.  It’s a super CAS sketch and I kept it just that way.

FTHS145 Birdday

I wasn’t kidding with the CAS!  I colored up the Birthday Candle Birdbrain.  I’m in a groove for coloring him with warm grey Copics.    He’s cut out with a Zig Zag STAX die.  The patterned paper is from Kaisercraft.  I popped up the birdbrain on dimensionals and then added some Stickles to the wick and Glossy Accents to his eyes.  Finally, I added in a trio of enamel dots.

FTHS141 Shake Your Flakes

Hi all!  Happy Monday!  We had beautiful weather yesterday that left the kiddos really itching for spring.  They had a quick scooter ride to the playground and back — with me trying to keep up behind them! LOL!

Today I have a card for the new I {heart} Sketches sketch.

FTHS141 Shake Your Flakes

I used another of the adorable snowmen from the Dancing Snowman set.  {This is a great value — there are 3 snowmen and four sentiments in this set.  All for $1.75!} I love the retro boom box!  It was a simple coloring — I colored up that scarf in green and then pulled out some fun green patterned papers to create a monochromatic card.

Hoppy Birthday

Hi all!  Happy Wednesday!  I’m here with some mid-week inspiration for From the Heart Stamps.

FTHS139 Hoppy Birthday take 3.jpg

I used the current sketch and the Birdbrain Brew image to create a birthday card for my husband.  Masculine cards aren’t always the easiest, but I love how this turned out.  I colored my birdbrains and their beer with Copics.  Then I cut it out with a Zig Zag Square STAX die.  To compliment the colors, I used papers from Doodlebug to create a fun background.  I wanted to keep it on the minimalist side for embellishments, but it still needed something, so I added some homemade enamel dots (melted Perler beads!) and some Liquid Applique foam.

MFTWSC260 You Keep Me Anchored

Hi all!  Hope you had a wonderful Christmas holiday with your family!  We had a lovely and quiet day at home.  The weather is unbelievably mild lately and the kiddos received scooters (the manual, use your feet kind) from Santa and they were able to use them outside.  I had a few crafty things on my wish list, as usual, but here’s the funny thing.  My husband shopped from an old list and luckily purchased something that I hadn’t bought in the meantime.  LOL!  My kiddos are getting to the age where they want to shop and pick out gifts on their own.  My son picked out the VersaFine Onyx ink pad I had on my list (new one, LOL) and the Let’s Get Nautical dies from MFT.  My husband gave me the coordinating Go Overboard stamp set.

Yesterday I got a little crafty time in and played along with the current MFT Card Challenge sketch.  I broke in my new stamps and dies right away.

I brought out my MISTI to stamp the anchor background in Electric Red.  To trim that piece out, I added in a touch of silver.  Then I cut two Stitched Circles from Black Licorice and two anchors – one from Electric Red and the other from a scrap of silver diagonally striped paper.  My black circles are popped up on dimensionals.  I glued down the anchors and applied Glossy Accents.  For my sentiment, I stamped it with my new VersaFine Onyx ink and embossed it with clear embossing powder. {Um, so much better than black embossing powder on Versamark!}  Then I cut it with a Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX, doubling it up to create the double edge.

FTHS #129 Hoppy Birthday

Happy Monday!  Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving!  Did you do Black Friday shopping?  I think just about every stamp company had a sale and I resisted, barely!  It was so tempting to buy lots and lots of goodies!

A new sketch challenge starts at From the Heart Stamps/ I {heart} Sketches.

I had a lot of fun with this one!  I used the Birthday Brew stamp, which is perfect for the beer connoisseur in your life!  I opted to create a beer bottle tag instead of a card.  I colored up my beer mug with Copics and cut it out with a Pierced Rectangle STAX die.   I then cut out the Hoppy Birthday sentiment with a Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX, doubling up and making it a flag end on each side.  My bottle tag is cut from Soft Suede, an old SU color that has been neglected for a long time.  I was going to get rid of it and I’m glad I kept it.  I added my image panel and popped up the sentiment.  Then I added some Liquid Appliqué (also been sitting around for a long time!) to the beer foam and heated it up with my heat gun.   So fun!  Oh, and I should mention, that is sitting on the neck of my favorite beer, Totally Naked from New Glarus Brewing in Wisconsin.  They only sell in Wisconsin and do not “export” to any other state.  I brought back two six packs this summer and have been nursing them through football season!

The tWist for this week’s sketch is to use heat embossing.  Since I used my heat tool to warm up the liquid appliqué, I think this qualifies for both.  Hope you’ll get the chance to play along with us this week.  I’ll be back on Friday with our December blog hop!  (HOW are we in December this week?!)
