Vintage Love Birds

Good Morning!  I took a few days off from blogland and creating in general.  I just needed a little break.  With all of the blog candy packages being shipped as of today, I am hoping for a fresh less-chaotic start to November.

Anyway, Kaboodle Doodles has a new challenge this week.  Our challenge is for you to make a project in the vintage style.  The challenge is sponsored by Stamp-n-Doodle and a $10 certificate is up for grabs.

I have to tell you I was not looking forward to this challenge.  I definitely am not a vintage girl. Finally, I wrapped my head around what to do and picked out this cute pair of love birds.  To achieve that vintage look, I used my neglected Koh-i-noor pencils to color them in and blended with OMS.  I found a great piece of floral paper from the Basic Grey  pack.  It matched up really nicely with Pretty in Pink and Always Artichoke.  A pretty lace bow and some Primas finished it off nicely.

Want to play along?  Just link up your NEW creation on the Kaboodle Doodles blog — linking directly to your POST not just your blog.  Also, please make sure that you do not link your project to more than 10 challenges including the Kaboodle Doodles challenge.  We’ve had to remove many fantastic entries because rules were not followed.

CAS Graduation Congrats

A very simple and easy card for a graduation. I made this last weekend, but it ultimately falls under the CAS challenge from Monday. The stamps are from a Studio G dollar set and Gina K’s Just So Sporty. Since the graduate’s school colors were orange & black, I went with Only Orange and Basic Black. The mortar board is colored with Koh-i-Noor and OMS. I added some Coal Shimmerz and Black Diamond Stickles for the tassel.

Pomegranate Peony

A few weeks ago, The Res-Q-Challenge blog issued a challenge to use marbling on your card. They mentioned the shaving cream technique, which I had never tried. This was also a challenge last week on StampTV. I finally gave it a try and it is a lot of fun! A bit messy (my kids would probably love it), but fun.

I adore the Bittybloom (chichiboulie) stamps from Stamping Bella. I think I like them more than the Bellas. Earlier this year, I used some of my tax refund fun money to place a big order. As usual, many of them still haven’t seen ink. In honor of the blooms on my peony bush, I inked up Peony Bittybloom. Isn’t she cute? She’s colored with Koh-i-Noor & Prisma pencils and blended with OMS. Her lighter pink layers are highlighted Pink Shimmerz.

Since these images are so cute and little, I decided to do a non-standard card and do a circle instead. My shaving cream background was a perfect match for Purely Pomegranate. I used my Nestabilities to cut the card shape and the Peony Nestabilities for the mat. The ribbon came from the Target $ Spot.

I only have a few Bellas — much more of a Chichiboulie Bittybloom girl — but I thought they deserved a bit of ink. As I was in need of a few birthday cards this week, I decided to ink up Cakeabella. She’s colored with Koh-i-Noor and Prisma pencils with OMS. Her cake has a bit of sparkle from Lavender and Yellow Stickles.

A little Cooper & Sophia

Have I mentioned how much I adore these little kids? They remind me of my own and they are so much fun to color.

First up is Cooper for Paper Pretties weekly challenge PWC49. The challenge was to use something you have been hoarding. I have multiple packs of these glitter dots and they have never made it onto a card. I also used the sketch from PWC48. I really liked the layout, but wasn’t able to play that week. I colored Cooper with Koh-i-Noor and Prisma pencils & OMS. Cooper’s skin & hair are colored with Copics.

I love when I get fun mail that I wasn’t expecting. I received my Hola Chica Sophia yesterday and actually was able to ink her up last night. This will be my submission for the May Cutie Pie contest.

Hola Chica Sophia is so much fun to color — there are so many color combos with her skirt and hat (what do you call a fruit hat/Carmen Miranda thingy?). I have one box of Copics and I used 1/3 of it on this card. You can’t see it, but each layer of her skirt has a bit of Shimmerz on it. All of the dots seemed really fun — between the Tiny Bubbles, Swiss Dots and Swiss Dot satin ribbon – I’m still trying to figure out where my love of dots & circles is coming from. LOL!

Clean & Simple Cats

The Clean & Simple challenge this week on SCS was an inspiration challenge. I’m familiar with Robeez, as both of my kids wore them. It didn’t take me long to find an inspiration pair — they were on the home page. One of my sets that hadn’t seen ink yet was The Cat’s Meow from H&M Stamps.

I wanted to keep this truly CAS. I did a one layer card, which was so odd after using layers so often. I did the card with the gray cat first and wasn’t sure I liked the gray with the brown & pink. I then did the brown one, trying to make it more of a tabby look. Unfortunately, I had some ink smudges on my hands or something because more than one popped up on this card. The yarn was traced with Stickles on each card to add a bit of embellishment. In the end I like both cats.

Stamps: H&M Stamps The Cat’s Meow
Paper: PTI White
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Other Stuff: Koh-i-Noor pencils, Gamsol, Stickles Fruit Punch & Cotton Candy

All Things Valentine

Well, almost all things. I still need to make a Valentine card for my husband. This has been a really busy week for me craft-wise.

Here are the latest products of my productivity:

I recently found the There She Goes stamp company. The Special Delivery set was one of the first I ordered. This was the perfect set for a Valentine’s Day. I used my Koh-i-Noor pencils again and blended. The cluster of hearts are propped up with a dimensional. The designer paper is from Doodlebug, which I love. I bought it last year and LOVE their papers. This was also my first time using Memento Tuxedo black ink. WOW! Crisp, wonderful images!

Recipe:

Stamps: There She Goes Special Delivery
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Pink Passion, PTI White, Doodlebug DP
Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
Extras: Koh-i-Noor pencils, OMS, ribbon, dimensionals, ticket corner punch

I still love the Target $ Spot mailboxes, even though they are a few years old. The paper is Doodlebug again. My heart Nestabilities have really been coming in handy lately. The smallest heart on the front is Cuttlebuged with the Swiss Dots folder. This was going to a friend whose life can get a bit crazy, so I filled it with Nuggets.

Recipe:
Stamps: PTI Limitless Labels
Ink: Pink Passion, Pixie Pink
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Pink Passion, Doodlebug DP
Extras: heart Nesties, Cuttlebug, Swiss Dots embossing folder, dimensionals, Hershey Nuggets

These were a lot of fun to make and didn’t take a ton of time. I took crayons, peeled the wrappers off and broke them into pieces. The pieces were put into a silicone heart pan and melted. The recipients of these were my daughter’s 3 year old classmates and I feared that without a coloring book, they would eat them. So, I downloaded some Valentine images from Preschool Coloring Book and shrunk them down. The coloring book is 3 x 3.5 inches. Again, used my heart nesties to decorate them. The small heart on the bag topper is from a Creative Memories heart punch.

Recipe:
Paper: Pretty in Pink, Real Red
Extras: heart Nesties, Cuttlebug, dimensionals, crayons, silicone pan, brads
