Why Limit Happy Hour…

Hi all!  Well, Hurricane Sandy roared through and was really nasty.  We lost power last Monday and didn’t regain it until late Sunday night.  We were very fortunate to not have a lot of rain with Sandy — we aren’t close enough to the ocean or any of the bays to have that issue.  However, we did have some really nasty winds.  The destruction of Sandy was just remarkable.  Hard to believe it was only Category 1/Tropical Storm status when it hit us.  I cringe at what anything stronger would be.

Due to Sandy, my kids have been out of school for a week plus some.  My husband has been home, working in spurts, when we turned our generator on.  We couldn’t run the generator consistently, as our gas supply was minimal and there was a gas shortage/mob scene at gas stations.  He’s attempting his first commute into NYC tomorrow and given that NJ Transit train lines have been damaged extensively, it looks to be a rough one.  The kids go back to school Wednesday for half days.  It is just pure craziness!

But, we were extremely fortunate.  So many others have been completely devastated by Sandy.  We were lucky enough to spend time with friends who had power and HEAT.

Anyway — after throwing a few loads of laundry in and vacuuming up the messes from the past week, I sat down to finish up a card I’d been trying to do something with during the daylight.  This was for a Hope You Can Cling To challenge — specificially the Chicken S-O-U-P challenge.

So this challenge was to use a chicken on your card and use elements that came from S-O-U-P.  I knew I had a chicken image amongst my catalog of Bugaboo Stamps images, but I wasn’t sure what I’d come up with.  When I found this French Hen image, I knew it would be perfect.  For my soup, I have Scallops, Orange, Underlining (this was the hardest for me) and Paris.  The sentiment is from MFT, as well as the sentiment die-namic.    This turned out really cute and quirky!

Hugs & Smiles

Happy Thursday! I have my fourth card for the HYCCT challenges and a Bugaboo Oldie But Goodie.  HYCCT1201B is For Kids’ Sake.  I know for my kiddos went through a lot with my cancer treatments — it is traumatic to see your mom losing her hair or with no hair at all.  Never mind, the additional sickness, tiredness, crankiness, surgery, etc, etc, etc.  I know kids are resilient, but I’m not only glad to be through all of this for myself, but also for them.

Anyway, with the HYCCT challenge, I decided to do a supportive card for a child.  I had this adorable Bugaboo Brat -Desiree colored in my stash and she worked perfectly.

This is a really fun color combo of Purely Pomegranate and Simply Chartreuse from PTI.  It’s complimented by Basic Grey Lemonade.  I love the cheeriness of the chartreuse, which I find ironic because I wouldn’t usually think cheery when I think chartreuse. KWIM?!  The sentiment is from Gina K and I think it just fits really well.  Hugs & Smiles!

Strong Choice

Happy Wednesday all!  Day three in a row of posts! WOOHOO!  I have a very simple layout — this was actually my card layout for a recent shoebox swap.  I altered it just a bit to fit another HYCCT challenge.  HYCCT1205’s theme is courage.  I wouldn’t call myself any more courageous or stronger than others — more stubborn, definitely!  However, during my course of breast cancer treatments and throughout the entire process (I’m not “done” as I still need to get my new boobs!), I’ve been told I’m so strong and courageous by many family members and friends.

To fit the challenge, I picked another MFT sentiment – this was from the small sentiment set sold with the VIP kit last October.  This really does fit what happens with breast cancer treatment.

Again, a very simple layout, a black bow with a rose center.

Be Strong

Hi all!  I’m back with another very simple card for a HYCCT challenge.  HYCCT1204 is “Strip Please” — as in what you need to do when you go for your mammogram.  Now, I’ve had three mammograms — one that resulted in me starting the breast cancer roller coaster I rode last year.  Rumor has it, once I complete my reconstruction with implants, I won’t be subjected to mammograms.  We shall see if that holds true!

For my card, I did another single layer card with strips of the MAMBI Breast Cancer papers — a great way to use up some scraps.

I gave a pretty line of pearls to separate the sentiment from the strips.  The sentiment is from the MFT Clearly Sentimental about Audrey Hepburn set.

Beauty Remains

Happy Monday all!  Hold on to your hats — I think I have 4-5 days of posts for you!  Shocking, I know!  I’ve been trying to participate in the SCS Hope You Can Cling To challenges and have made a few cards.  I’m starting out with my favorite card I’ve created so far for the challenges.

The HYCCT1206 challenge, we were challenged to use 3 dies/punches and a focal sentiment.  I know in order for me to actually participate in these challenges, I need to get myself out of my usual format of cards.  When I was thinking of this challenge, I picked out the sentiment and then tried to come up with a design to fit the 3 punches/dies.  This was the result.

When I thought of beauty remaining, I thought of rainbows.  I created a “rainbow” with my MFT medium scallop die-namic.  I topped the rainbow off with a pretty bow and then a few embossed clouds (PTI dies).  A trio of clear Dew Drops under the sentiment finished it off.  This just makes me smile and I hope it has the same affect when I send it off to MD Anderson.

Just Add Pink

Hi all!  Happy Thursday!  I cannot believe it has been almost two weeks since I posted on here.  The mojo has been very slow & lethargic lately.  I’m hoping with all of the fantastic challenges out there for Breast Cancer Awareness month, I’ll get a boost.  I still have a hard time believing I’m part of this “sorority” now.  I’m one year post diagnosis (actually 1 year 3 months today) and am counting down the days until I get my “real fake boobs”! LOL!
I’m trying to use up my stash of colored images and pulled out this sweet Pink Ribbon Gal – Beth image from Bugaboo Stamps.

The layout is this weeks Sweet Sunday Sketch and it has a healthy dose of pink!  Last year, I bought the Me & My Big Ideas 12×12 paper pad and I really love the script words papers included.  Strength, determination and courage are definitely three traits that you need to do battle with breast cancer (or any cancer for that matter!).

One of the challenges I’m linking this up to is the first Hope You Can Cling To challenge — Show Me What You’re Made Of — over at SCS.  We are to show our stamping style — I’m definitely a layers girl.  I love my ribbons and rhinestones.  I also love tracing the inner edge of my Nestie before taking the image out — I saw this on someone’s blog and it is probably “so last year”, but I just love the little added element this gives an image.
