Fantastic News!

Happy Saturday!  Well, another fun (heavy sarcasm) weather week here in NJ.  We had a Nor’easter blow threw on Wednesday with SNOW!  Yes, a hurricane one week, an earthquake later in the week (not by me, but in NJ) and then a snow storm.  Seriously!  And — this weekend we are supposed to reach 60 degrees!! It’s insane!  We are slowly getting back to a normal routine.  It is extremely hard to believe that Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, especially since we did Halloween trick or treating and school parties this week.

Anyhow — we have a new challenge over at Catch the Bug this week.  The theme is Things with Tails.  You know there are a slew of fun images to choose from over in the Bugaboo Store.

I decided to go with the Calling Bird image that was released last Christmas.  I always thought it would be fun to use this in a way they show multi-line calls in TV shows.  So I sized the image down quite small and lined up 4 of them.   Each has a very sassy colored retro phone.  I added a dab of Glossy Accents to each phone dial and the bird eyes.  The sentiment is from Gina K’s Tag Lines set — one of my favorite go to sets for sentiments.

Come and play along with us at Catch the Bug this week for your chance to win up to 7 free images from the Bugaboo Stamps store!

Hugs & Smiles

Happy Thursday! I have my fourth card for the HYCCT challenges and a Bugaboo Oldie But Goodie.  HYCCT1201B is For Kids’ Sake.  I know for my kiddos went through a lot with my cancer treatments — it is traumatic to see your mom losing her hair or with no hair at all.  Never mind, the additional sickness, tiredness, crankiness, surgery, etc, etc, etc.  I know kids are resilient, but I’m not only glad to be through all of this for myself, but also for them.

Anyway, with the HYCCT challenge, I decided to do a supportive card for a child.  I had this adorable Bugaboo Brat -Desiree colored in my stash and she worked perfectly.

This is a really fun color combo of Purely Pomegranate and Simply Chartreuse from PTI.  It’s complimented by Basic Grey Lemonade.  I love the cheeriness of the chartreuse, which I find ironic because I wouldn’t usually think cheery when I think chartreuse. KWIM?!  The sentiment is from Gina K and I think it just fits really well.  Hugs & Smiles!

The Cherry on Top

It’s almost the weekend! We have some gorgeous weather today and I think it should be nice for at least Saturday. I’m so happy to have the windows open & fresh air coming in.

I just discovered another digi stamp company with some really cute images — Tiffany Doodles. She has some great images & sets in her store — I so need to get the chocolate kiss set. Tiffany is currently searching for a design team and I’m throwing my name in the ring for a spot.

I grabbed the freebie from last week, a great little cherry bunch, and went to work. By the way, Thursday is freebie day and she has a beautiful butterfly up for grabs today.

Now, I will admit to not being a cherry fan. However, I recently discovered wild cherry flavored diet Pepsi and LOVE it. It just isn’t very easy to find, which is annoying! Anyway, when I saw this image, I immediately thought of putting together a gift basket, which led me to the basket template Gina K shared recently. I knew I had this DCWV cherry paper in my stash, so it worked out really nicely. This little basket is filled with lots of cherry sugary-ness. Cherry Sours (my daughter likes these, much to my surprise), gummi Lifesavers, Twizzler cherry bites, cherry Tic Tacs and a wild cherry Pepsi (didn’t have any diet). I had so many artificially flavored cherry things in my room, it still smelled like it today!

The basket comes together so easily. This was my trial run as I am going to make these for the teachers at the kids’ school as end of the year gifts. I filled little pillow boxes with the candies and topped them off with ribbon and a cherry tag.

The MOJO Monday sketch for this week was my inspiration for the card. I don’t have the Top Note die, so I used my Labels 1 Nesties to cut the lower piece. Rarely do I use my kraft paper, but I love the pop of the red & white with the kraft. Both the red & white are embossed with Swiss Dots, topped with a piece of polka dotted red grosgrain and finished off with black twin and a big red button. I typed in the sentiment while in PSP before printing off my image. Finally, I added Glossy Accents to my cherries (and unfortunately ended up with some bubbles due to impatience!).

Survival Kit – Birthday & Anniversary

As promised, here are the birthday and anniversary cards from the Man’s Survival Card Kit. One thing I really enjoyed about this kit was that I pulled out sets I hadn’t used in a long time.

First up, is the birthday card. I pulled out a few PaperTrey Ink sets for this card — Guide Lines and Out on a Limb sentiments. I ended up doing a few trial & error attempts with the Guide Lines. It took a bit to get the right shape, design and color choice.

I really like how Guide Lines allows for a really elegant background. Although this required a bit of extra play to get it right, I love how clean & simple it is. I stamped out the design with Guide Lines in Memento Lulu Lavender. This was paired with Lavender Moon and Plum Pudding. The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Plum Pudding and cut out with a Fancy Tag Nestie. Some saddle stitch grosgrain and a few pearls finished this off very nicely.

Up next is the anniversary card, for which I pulled out the Gina K A Year of Flowers set by Melanie Muenchinger.

This definitely took a bit more time to put together! I stamped & masked half a dozen of roses. Three were colored with only my R46 Copic. The other three were colored with the R81 first and then blended with the R46. I added in a few leaves and then brushed over the roses with Royal Red Shimmerz. The sentiment is from Mega Mixed Messages and is cut out with another Fancy Tag Nestie. I added in some Pure Poppy grosgrain and some pearls to make for a really elegant finish.

To one person…
Stamps: PaperTrey Ink Guide Lines, Out on a Limb sentiments
Paper: Plum Pudding, Lavender Moon, Select White (PTI)
Ink: Memento LuLu Lavender, Tuxedo Black

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I’ll finish up the Man’s Survival Kit on Sunday. Tomorrow I have a Freebie Friday for you from Bugaboo. Saturday is a two-fer. I’m participating in the There She Goes Mother of All Blog Hops and it is a new challenge for Bugaboo! Lots going on and you won’t want to miss out!

Survival Kit — Valentine’s Day & Gift Card Holders

Today I have a trio of cards from the Man’s Survival Card Kit. Because this was going to an unknown recipient, I wanted to steer clear of the religious holidays — Christmas, Easter, Hanukkah, etc. I did want to include Valentine’s Day and to round out the set with 10 cards, I made up two gift card holders that were regular sized cards.

First up is the Valentine’s Card. I decided to use the super cute Crush on You stamp from Stampavie.

Isn’t that a sweet image? I stamped the cute couple in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it in with Copics. This is a nice sized image, so it is cut out with the bigger rectangle Nesties. I made this a true Valentine’s card with Pure Poppy, Raspberry Fizz and Simple Valentine patterned paper, all from PaperTrey. Since the image takes up much of the card, I only added a pretty bow of Raspberry Fizz grosgrain and a small sentiment from the Tiny Treats Valentine set, also from PTI.

Next up is a very simple gift card holder.

This was super simple. I used a favorite color combo of pink & black. The pink is embossed with the Cuttlebug Houndstooth folder. The patterned paper is from Making Memories Sabrina, as is the ribbon. Inside I stamped the small sign from the Gina K Perfectly Polished set with Celebrate as a greeting.

Last up is a fantastic pop-up gift card holder. I knew what I wanted to do, had seen it on a few blogs, but had to do a little searching for the details on how to do it. I found a fantastic video tutorial HERE.

This time I used another favorite pink companion, Chocolate Chip. I paired this with more Sabrina paper, ribbon and these fantastic little acrylic “stickers” I’ve been hoarding — oops, I mean storing — for over a year. I stamped the sign from the Gina K Perfectly Polished set and For You. Before removing it from the Nestie, I sponged Memento Angel Wings over the top.

Inside I kept it very simple, adding in pink houndstooth dp from Sabrina and a small rectangle for writing a message.

Survival Kit – I’m Sorry

Included in the Man’s Survival Card Kit were two I’m Sorry cards. One was serious and one more cute/fun — giving the man a choice depending on how much trouble he was in!

For the serious card, I replicated a card I usually use for sympathy cards. I used Out on a Limb from PaperTrey Ink and kept the layout very simple. The sentiment is from a Gina K set. I actually had to search for a sentiment with sorry in it. The inside of this card was stamped with an additional limb, but left blank as far as words.

For the less serious card, I pulled out Cuddles & Hugs from Gina K. I thought the pair of snakes would be really cute. I picked out some paper from my stack of 4×4 diVine and matched them up with New Leaf and Sweet Blush from PTI. I really love how this turned out. The snakes are colored with Copics and I printed a sentiment off on Select White. I punched out the sentiment with my Word Window punch and backed it with the Modern Tag punch. Basic Grey half pearls finished off the sentiment nicely. Inside I stamped hisses & kisses from the Cuddles & Hugs set. With this set of cards, I tried to stick with standard sizes, but this card measures 4.25 square and still fits in the regular envie.

A Techie Birthday

Today is my husband’s birthday. He was hoping we would actually get some snow and the pathetic trace on our driveway wasn’t what he was thinking. Although this means he doesn’t have to shovel, it also means the kiddos are disappointed about not having snow. I know other areas have been and are being pounded with over a foot of snow. Oh well!

For his card, I used Melanie’s Tech Talk set from Gina K. I was fortunate to win this from a blog candy on Melanie’s blog. This set is perfect for my husband, who works in IT. I kept this pretty simple — I stamped the laptop and added wallpaper from DCWV’s The Winter Matstack, which matched pretty well with Taken with Teal & Rich Razzleberry. I stamped two coffee cups and picture frames, cut one out and popped them up on dimensionals. I printed off a very small picture of myself and the kids and put it in the frame. The mouse is wireless and also popped up on dimensionals. On his screen, I used the confetti from Jumping for Joy to make the sentiment a bit more festive. As final touches, I added a Hero Arts Sparkle Gem to the touch pad and a Rain Dot heart to the mouse.
