Birthday Squiggles

Hi all!  Happy Friday!  Well, we got more snow yesterday.  Kids had their 4th and hopefully last snow day of this school year.  Based on my three outings to shovel, I’d say we got close to 9 inches.  We are running out of room for the snow banks.  I’m reaching my cutoff point for winter.  🙂

Today I wanted to share the cards I made for a stamping get together last weekend.  Squiggles and scribbles are very in right now and I saw a fantastic tag on Instagram {by the way, you can follow me there @pinkroomtherapy} that inspired this card.

This was actually my second attempt with this card, but I actually like it more!  I stamped the squiggle from Whimsical Wishes in Versamark on a {pre-cut with Blueprints 13} watercolor panel.  I was looking to do 4 squiggles, but realized they were too far apart for my liking {annoyance of Versamark} so I squeezed another squiggle in there.  I then embossed them with white embossing powder.  Next up was coloring them with my gelatos and a watercolor brush.  The sentiment is from Whimsical Wishes as well and I added in a trio of sequins.  The card base is a beautiful Ocean Mist {I think} from Gina K.

This was my first attempt.  My squiggles were embossed with clear embossing powder vs the white of above.  I prefer the white embossing powder. Again some sequins and a Melon Berry from PTI card base.

Here’s my lovely group of friends with our creations on Sunday.

HYCCT1429 Peace, Love, Joy

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!  It’s a sloppy, wet one here, turning from rain to snow.  The kids are very excited about the first snow.  Hopefully, it won’t be so disgusting that they can be shipped outside to play this afternoon when the get out of school early.

In honor of the snow, I have another snowflake card I made for HYCCT1429, which was no designer paper.  I loved how this turned out and will be using this card for my stamping day with friends on Friday.

Actually, to say that I loved this result is probably an understatement. I likely squealed a little!  For my background, I used my Gelatos and created this peaceful blue background on watercolor paper.  I then added my Snowflake Fusion Cover-up die cut on top.  I added in a bit of organza ribbon and a sentiment on a Pierced Fishtail Flags STAX from Clearly Sentimental About Christmas.  Simply beautiful!  I can’t wait to recreate it with my friends on Friday!

Have a  wonderful Thanksgiving!  Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog!

HYCCT1413 Song in My Heart

Happy Tuesday!  My kids have early dismissals for parent/teacher conferences, so I’m squeaking this in.  Do you ever have a card that makes you want to do a jig when it turns out or squeal with glee?  Well, this one is one for me!  A few months ago, I bought a full set of Gelatos.  I will be the first to admit I’m not very good about following through on learning the new techniques.  So, needless to say, I haven’t had the best success with them.

HYCCT1413 is a challenge called “Heart Song” — use music, birds, hearts, words of encouragement. I knew immediately that I wanted to use CAS-ual Fridays Stamps Love Notes.   When I sat down to do this the other day, I opted to pull out my Gelatos and play with them a bit.  I used watercolor paper and ran a line of each rainbow color across my paper.  I then wet it with the water brush included in the set.

Once I allowed the Gelatos to dry a bit, I stamped the stanza from the Love Notes set in Steel Grey hybrid ink on top.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!  I added a sentiment from the set underneath and kept it at that!

MFTWSC166 Gelato Art

Happy Sunday!  Spring seems to be making an appearance here in NJ and I’m so happy to see the mounds of snow melt away.  Even the kids, who have really enjoyed the snow and the mounds of snow that enabled them to build “palaces”, are looking forward to spring.

I’ve been drooling over the Faber-Castell Gelatos for a while now.  I finally decided to take the plunge and ordered them last week.  I played with them a bit yesterday when I made my MFTWSC card and I am really happy with the outcome.

For my first attempt at using the Gelatos, I opted for a rainbow background.  I swiped my colors across regular card stock, spritzed it with water and blended with a paintbrush.  For the sketch this week, I substituted the circle with a paint palette.  The sentiment is from Clearly Sentimental about Art.  I can’t wait to play with the Gelatos more and see what I come up with — there are so many beautiful colors to play with!
