A St. Patrick’s Day Claddagh

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Today is one of my favorite days and we have an absolutely gorgeous day. Being from Wisconsin originally, rarely was St. Patrick’s Day sunny and 60+ degrees.

One of my favorite images from the Flourishes Irish Blessings set is the claddagh. Long before my husband and I were married, we worked close to a small Irish gift shop in NYC. I forget the occasion, but I gave him a claddagh necklace one year and it has always been a favorite of ours. So I’m giving him a claddagh again today, in the form of a card.

I really love the easel cards and it worked out perfectly. I stamped the claddagh in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it in with my Copics. I then cut it out with Labels 11 and paired it with Chocolate Chip and River Rock. Using a gold gel pen, I accented the heart. My River Rock is embossed with the Floral & Stone Impressabilities. It was my first time using an Impressabilities and in my opinion, you don’t get nearly as deep of an embossing as you do with a Cuttlebug folder. However, I love the design of this particular one. I stamped two of the sentiments from the set and cut them out as well with my Labels 11.

On the lower piece, I added the larger sentiment as the easel stop and then did some paper piercing. I picked up this awesome paper piercing template from I {heart} Papers and there are perfect four leaf clovers in various sizes. I pierced two and added a tiny Basic Grey half pearl to each center.

Shamrock Bouquet

My Mom’s birthday is the day after St. Patrick’s Day and St. Paddy’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I remember having a great party for her birthday and St. Paddy’s Day combined. Apparently, it was a really good party because I thought it was an annual thing, but really it was only for her 30th. LOL!

When I saw the Irish Blessings set from Flourishes on the most recent release, I knew I had to have it. The bouquet of shamrocks is so gorgeous, I thought it would make a pretty and a bit unusual, but appropriate, birthday bouquet.

I stamped my bouquet in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Copics. Then came the hard part — finding green patterned paper that worked. Ultimately, I chose New Leaf from PTI and a piece of green from the Basic Grey Porcelain pack. Using the Tuesday Morning Sketch #35 for a layout, I cut another strip of New Leaf, which I punched with a Martha Stewart loop punch — sorry, I don’t remember which one it is and can’t seem to find it anywhere — on each side and added a strip of New Leaf grosgrain. After cutting out my bouquet and the mat with Nesties, I mounted that with dimensionals on my card.

For final touches, I added Dew Drops in Lily Pad, Liquid Pearls in Emerald Green and Yellow Stickles. The sentiment is from There She Goes Cupcake Mix & Match and is punched out with my Word Window and Modern Tag punches. I am not a big green person, but I love how this turned out. I’m also submitting this as my second card for The Pink Elephant #56 challenge this week — it definitely fits the green challenge.
