Happy Winter

Hi all! Hope you all had a great day. We have had some really strong thunderstorms tonight with quite a bit of lightning. Enough that the Monday Night Football game was delayed. We’ve had a very wet October.

I want to share and answer one of the most common questions/comments we get regarding Ainsley’s Type 1 diabetes.

“It must be hard to let her have only certain foods and restrict others.”

One of the first things Ainsley’s pediatric endocrinologist told us after diagnosis is that they want kids to be kids. We do not restrict Ainsley’s food choices, but for a few that are likely to be restricted even if it weren’t for Type 1. Ainsley is allowed to have sugar — we deal in total carbohydrates, not just sugar. We use a rule of moderation, as it should be for any child. There are very few things we use sugar-free products for:

**drinks — We don’t like to give her insulin (bolus) for drinks unless it is milk and milk is hard on her blood sugar.
**Jell-o — Have you ever read the nutritional information on regular Jell-o and the amount of sugar in there?
**Popsicles and Ice Pops — It’s a great low carb treat for her and she loves them.
**Maple Syrup — Again, have you read the nutritional information on regular syrup?

Additionally, if you look at the sugar-free candy and chocolates, they contain sugar alcohols, which are a part of the total carbohydrate count and therefore, we would still need to give her insulin for them.

Okay, so on to my card today. I wanted to showcase the sponsors of my blog candy and the first I’d like to showcase is Paper Pretties. They are now under new, US-based ownership and Heather is AWESOME! Things have settled down a bit around here and I wanted to give the latest challenge a try. I can honestly say Frances has designed one of the most challenging sketches I’ve ever used.

Um yeah!  I looked at that and had to think about what sets I had to fit into those little blocks.  Finally, I decided to use Snowflake Kisses Sophia set — but I think because I have the old rubber set, it is different from the current set in the store.

I chose the pair of mittens and stamped two of them, along with the trio of snowflakes and Happy Winter. The mittens are colored in fun colors of pink & red. I added lots of glitter to each pair and to the snowflakes. The pink layer is embossed with the Snowflakes Cuttlebug folder. It was quite the challenge to get these four rectangles on the card. I added in some Candy Dots and a double layer snowflake.

  1. I do the Adkins diet & they say that alcohol sugar doesn't raise the blood sugar so it doesn't count for net carbs. you might want to check with a doctor on it.

    I love the card
