Inkin’ Isabella Crafy Journal Trio

Okay, I’m really excited about today’s project! Last Fall, Die Cuts R Us released this adorable digi stamp called Inkin’ Isabella. She is perfect for all of us glamorous paper crafters. When I saw her, I knew I wanted to make crafting journals for a few online friends. These were supposed to be Christmas presents, but you know how that can go. Then they were supposed to be New Year’s presents and that was sidetracked with our trip home. I’m so happy to have finally made them. This is a picture-heavy post, so you may want to grab a cup of coffee or tea before you go further.

The DCRU challenge this week is a sketch challenge — in fact, every 3rd Tuesday will be a sketch challenge! I love a good sketch and they are off to a good start with this one.

I flipped the sketch 90° counterclockwise and came up with this:

Isn’t she cute and aren’t they a cute trio? What I really love about Isabella is that her features are colorable — I can color her chunky highlights, her eyebrows, her eyes and lipstick. I love that! I wanted to do something different with her shirt, so I decided to paper piece her shirt. Now, doing this with a digi image requires you to have some faith in your printer. I remembered seeing this on a blog and thinking — “yeah, right. I would be dealing with a paper jam.” But since we got our new printer a few months ago, I had a bit more faith in this process.

After printing my Isabellas on PTI Select White cardstock, I printed a second copy on regular printer paper. I then covered her shirt with my choice of patterned paper, using repositionable adhesive.

I then put the paper back in my printer tray and printed again, hoping that it wouldn’t jam and would come out the way it was supposed to.

When I saw the page come out of the printer, willingly and printed properly, I was thrilled. I removed my piece of patterned paper and cut out her shirt.

For my journal, I used a bright pink — something that would fit in my room quite well.

The patterned paper is from Doodlebug. It is a few years old, so I have no idea what line it was from — I’m still using up scraps! I paired this with Pink Passion and PTI Raspberry Fizz. As a base for each journal I used Basic Black — these journals were a pesky red trimmed journal (as you may see popping through on the spine) and I wanted to make sure you couldn’t see it through the paper. I added some yummy, yummy May Arts ribbon (a fun stocking-stuffer from DH this past Christmas) and Candy Dots in Baby Pink. I used Labels 8 to cut out Isabella and after embossing, I painted her edge with Bubblegum Shimmerz.

For my next Isabella, I went with blue tones since I know that is a favorite of my friend. We had the pleasure of meeting last fall with our families, so I could actually personalize this to what she looks like. Since she has black/salt & pepper black hair, I had to step out of my comfort zone with coloring her hair. I first colored in her hair (both highlights and main hair) with C1. I didn’t want it to be completely gray, so I used my Copic blender and 100 black marker to color the rest. I really like the result. For the paper, I chose Basic Grey Cupcake and paired it up with Core’dinations The Chocolate Box paper. The small panel is embossed with the Texture Cuttlebug folder — a folder that is really growing on me. I added some polka-dot sheer May Arts ribbon in white and blue — although it is impossible to tell that on the panel. I made a double bow using both colors with my Bow Easy and finished it off with Mint Chocolate Dew Drops.

For my third and final Isabella, I went with a pastel palette from Basic Grey Lemonade. I paired this with Spring Rain from PTI. The bow is again a double bow, made with my Bow Easy and using Spring Rain and Sweet Blush satin ribbon from PTI. More Candy Dots were the final touch on this journal.
