Sympathy Duo

A friend unfortunately needed two sympathy cards earlier this week. But, it’s appropriate for me to be posting sympathy cards today. On Tuesday our boiler went – we have an old house with steam radiator heat — and the repair man came today finally. Unfortunately, the boiler is dead and will need to be replaced to the tune of far too much money, especially before the holidays. It has made me a bit Scrooge-like today and I’m hoping tonight will change all of that. My daughter and I are going to see The Nutcracker at the PAC in the next town. I only told her after picking her up from school and she is very excited.

I apologize for the darkness in these photos. I normally take the pictures in our 3 season room, but the sun hadn’t made its way around when I took these.

PaperTrey Ink makes two of the best sets for sympathy cards IMO. I usually go with the obvious With Sympathy set, but this time decided to go with Out on a Limb for the image. For me, I also think sympathy cards should be soft in color. When I was searching the gallery on SCS for some inspiration, I came upon this beautiful card and used it for the basis of my cards.

Initially I planned to do a 4.25 square card, since it would still fit in a regular envelope, but after stamping my image, I decided to go with a regular 4.25 x 5.5 card. My first color combo was Sweet Blush & Chocolate Chip. The branches were stamped in Rich Cocoa and the flowers in Toile Pink. I loved the addition of Liquid Pearls in the inspiration card and used Petal Pink for the centers. The leaves were stamped with Spring Moss.

Inside I again stamped the branch after stamping off once. I stamped a sentiment from With Sympathy over the top.

For the second card, I chose Spring Moss, Chocolate Chip and a Cream instead of white. I used one of the leaf images from Out on a Limb and accented them with a touch of Moonlight Smooch.

Again I stamped the inside, but chose to put the branch in the upper corner. The elegant simplicity of these images and the beauty of the sentiments really combine to make a wonderful card. Sympathy cards are by no means “fun” to create, but I was thrilled with the outcome of these two cards.
