A-Z Cookies & Candy

So how many of you are in shock that it is now November and we’ll be quickly approaching Thanksgiving and Christmas? I know I am and I still cannot believe how quickly 2009 has flown by.

I signed up for two A-Z recipe swaps on SCS late in the summer. Both were for Christmas recipes — one candy, the other cookies. November seemed so far off, but the due date quickly approached and I was very happy to complete both of these last week. Although they came together really nicely, I don’t think I’ll be quite so gung ho to sign up for any future A-Z swaps. A LOT of work!

For my candy recipe, I chose a Hazelnut-Coffee Caramel recipe from Betty Crocker. I had picked out my dp and colors, setting out to print my recipes. Well, our printer decided to act up. It printed the recipe okay, but down the back of the paper was a full paper length streak of black ink. It continued to get worse, so my husband ran the cleaning diagnostic on it. Nada. He then took it apart and cleaned it with rubbing alcohol. Guess what? It became worse! At this point, I freaked a bit, knowing the candy recipes were due within a week. Fortunately, we were able to find a new printer and get it within two days. I was able to knock out these swaps in no time with it and it prints really nicely.

On to the card — it is a very simple layout. I used Always Artichoke, Ruby Red and some really cute holly print DP. I stamped out one of the mugs from Gina K’s My Cuppa’ Joe and colored it with Copics. I punched the mugs out and matted them on scalloped circles of Always Artichoke. In order to incorporate my letter, I stamped H on the mug from PTI’s Fresh Alphabet. As a final touch, I added holly using Martha Stewart’s branch punch and a button.

For my cookie recipe, I naively picked a very long recipe. There was no way I was getting it on the page without a special layout. After playing around with it a bit, I decided to make it a book. I printed the recipe side by side on cardstock and was able to print two to a page. The book measures 4.25 x 4.75 (closed). I added 3 small Nestie pine trees, which I embossed with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder. As my husband commented, it was a small forest I produced with my Cuttlebug. LOL!
