Mermaid Birthday Wishes

Today is my daughter’s 4th birthday. She shared her big day with her little brother who started pre-school today. It was quite the day in our house. She has just started to get in to all of the Disney Princess stuff and Ariel is pretty popular. When I was floundering for an idea for a card last night, my husband asked if I had any mermaid stamps. I’ve had this adorable Emma the Mermaid set from Fred She Said for a while and haven’t been able to get it on a card. It was the perfect set and the perfect suggestion.

I arranged and resized Emma, the seashells, starfish and kelp in Word to make the scene. After a few trial and error print jobs — on regular computer paper — I printed it out on card stock. Emma & friends are colored with Copics and mounted on a piece of Stardream Metallic Opal,I believe. I really wanted this to be the focal point of the card, so I kept the actual card simple. I had a piece of Cool Caribbean sitting nearby and it made a nice, odd-size card. The card is 3 1/4 x 5 1/2.

Sand and water were sponged with Cool Caribbean and Palette Cognac inks. I then added Martha Stewart Florentine Gold glitter to the sand. The kelp has Eucalyptus Stickles and Platinum Stickles on the base of it. For additional sparkle, which unfortunately you can’t really see, I added Angel Wings Shimmerz and Pixie Dust Blingz to her scales and the shells. A lot of card for a 4 year old, but she’s definitely worth it!
