Have you ever made a card, thought you liked it and then, after staring at it, you decide you don’t really like it, but you don’t hate it? Well, today’s card did it to me. First, let me give you the inspiration picture for the card.
When I first saw this, I was scared. This was Charmaine’s pick for this week’s Paper Pretties challenge. The whole Southwestern theme was throwing me. I kept thinking how I didn’t have the Howdy Girlfriend Sophia. Finally, it dawned on me to go with a color combo; one that I had wanted to try — Taken with Teal and Chocolate Chip.
Today, with my daughter in pre-k until mid-afternoon and my son asleep for his afternoon nap, I set out to make a card. I pulled out the MOJOJANETTE sketch I wanted to try and things fell in place quite nicely. There was a lot of Taken with Teal on this card — I tried to add in some Rose Red, but just didn’t like it. After deciding on an embellishment instead of a bow, I was excited to add the colored-to-match flower. I quickly took a few pictures and uploaded the card (completely loosing track of time and having to wake my son & rush out the door to pick up my daughter).
When I returned, I knew I had to add a few additional details to my Paper Pretties gallery post. At that point, I kept looking at it and decided there was too much teal. This was the original card.
Since I popped up my image with dimensionals, I was able to pull it off without ruining the image.
My main issue was with the Swiss Dot embossed piece. I knew I wasn’t liking it. For one thing, I wanted it trimmed with my Martha Stewart Floral Lace border punch, but it wasn’t punching through cardstock. I cut my teal piece smaller and ran both the teal and chocolate chip through my Cuttlebug. I also changed out my Michaels ribbon for some SU chocolate chip grosgrain. There is still a lot of teal on this card, but I feel much better about it.
